Right, so it is almost time for the Cape Cycle tour... This year being my first one, I'll document it, post some pics of the intended bike, progress, and the Cycle tour itself....

The Story so far.....

Last year, my good friend of mine, whom I knew since kindergarten passed away. We always said we'll do the "Argus" on bmx's when we grew up, and never got the chance.
Made me realise I should not put anything on hold in my life. Friendships, Family and the little time we have is very precious.

So I entered my first CCT race....

There was a guy some time back that rode bmx from cape town to joburg and then did the 94.7 on bmx. I think he did road and the mtb races if i remember correctly. Cannot remember if he did the argus aswel. So ja definitely possible. Good luck chap!

The bike....

I searched for 6 odd months for a bike that I wanted to use on the CCT, and ended up settling for a trek TR50.

It is a bit heavier than I thought it would be. But first of all I'll remove those heavy pegs.

It has some scratches here and there, and the rear wheel has some damage from a hammer or something. The rear wheel also has rust or whatever.. But overall the bike is in fare condition. It has great hubs, crank, and big seat.

Plans for the bike:
Clean it
Change front and rear rims around, or get two new ones depending on cost
Service Hubs
Service Crank
Service headset
Service Brakes
Get two new tyres and tubes
Remove Pegs

The good the bad and the ugly...

I got my entry, and I have my flight tickets. Now I know I would easily finish the CCT on my MTB within a decent time, but this is whole different story. - Any advise would be appreciated.
My biggest concern is that I would need some saddle time, and see if If my lower back will survive. My goal is really to finish the race.

That said, I also have a wedding in Noordhoek on saturday night before the race. So this can really go one of two ways.

The good news is it's been done before. on MULTIPLE occasions, by guys in mankinis. If you want to I can hook you up with these guys for advice. Don't want to derail your thread - good luck, you can do it!

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely experiment with my cycle clothes as well as different shoes. Dunno if cleats will make it easier or or worse.
