MTB tyre Lining

Hi everyone. So I got my first puncture today and luckily not far from home. I have a puncture repair kit but I want something like this to happen as little as possible. I ha e a tyre with a tube on the inside. I see sportmans warehouse sells a tyre lining. Are these worth the effort and what are the Pros and Cons.

Yes they work but they add weight. If your tyres and rim are compatible, a tubeless conversion might work better.

You can also replace your existing tubes with tubes that are pre-loaded with a sealant.

What tyre/rim combo do you have?

I got my first MTB and my first puncture almost at the same time a few years back. Decided on tyre liners, and got my next puncture almost at the same time I got the liners as well. Perhaps I installed it incorrectly  ?? Went tubeless and have not had a flat in 4 years! (Obviously replacing sealent every year or so.

Save the bucks on the liners towards a tubeless conversion!! Google Ghetto tubeless conversion for cheap cheap, or buy the kit.

I have both tyre lining and slime tubes.... works PERFECTLY! (bit of a pain to fit, have to make sure it doesnt slip down onto the side of the tube)

I have never had to fix a puncture on my MTB.... even when everyone else around me is getting flats left right and centre. Worst i have had was noticing my pressures dropped more than usual and i needed to pump it a bit...

and as for the weight, it really isnt much of a difference unless you find yourself huddled in a corner crying and spending a small fortune on therapy everytime you pick up a gram or two... then go tubeless.... (only reason i havent is coz i cant afford to do it yet)

The tire also make a big difference I am running continental protection tubeless tires on tubeless rims with tubes and no sealant and have not had a puncture yet even though other riders around me have. I will probably add sealant or go tubeless at some point but I have not bothered.

I ran tyre liners when I was using tubes. They work well and if you go to northcliff cycles they have got very light weight ones. The sportsmans ones I saw were quite heavy. I've finally gone tubeless but I did require new tyres and you want to make sure your rims will manage. Narrow rims plus wide tyres on ghetto tubeless is known to be a problem for burping. I didn't get punctures from anything except snake bites after I put in my liners. They made a huge difference and are much cheaper than a new set of tyres, tape, sealant and valves. Wear out your current tyres then go tubeless.

After my first puncture I got way out on the far end of Northern Farms I got slime tubes as well as tyre liners and it worked well for months with no punctures. Since then I bought another bike and went tubeless, no punctures yet(touch wood), but the liners did work well. I am a bit paranoid so went with both slime and liners, but think one would probably be fine with liners only.
