Riding shoes for Epic

Which is best for Epic - Stiffer or more flexible soles?

I noticed a huge number  of taped up achilles tendons last year (including mine) which I'm told is from even just a little walking uphill on rocky ground in stiff shoes...

At this stage I would not change to a different shoe from what you have been using. A new pair of the same that you are using should be fine.

5 Weeks of training left!

Good luck see you there.

Don't think strapped achillies is due to walking alone can be many things - can relate to knees which is actually ITB, not enough stretching etc.

Would stick with Newboy's advice and rather stretch your calves and do some very very light running - actually good active recovery

Are you planning to ride or walk a lot?

Personally I like using my Sidi Dragons - and the soles are pretty stiff - the only thing I have swapped is the innersoles for the custom moulded Fizik ones from Cyclefit - one of the best investments in ride comfort ever.

I also have the toe studs fitted - definately helps on the Epic - not so much on other rides.

You should probably put some effort into calf stretches, and do a little running to try and avoid the same problem again - worked for me.

I would not take a newish pair to the CE.... had to throw mine away they were so siff and was glad they were an old pair due for replacement. If you decide to scrap them afterwards don't forget to take out your custom inserts first (if u have custom soles)

The best shoes for Epic are the ones you have been wearing for the last year.

I don't think stiffer or flexible soles makes a big difference in portage sections at all. Just take your most comfortable two pairs with you.

You should try the fi'zi:k M3 BoA.

I have a pair size 43 for sale used twice. Beautifully made shoe.  I bought them from Bike + in Constantia they seemed good in shop after two rides i realized I had made a mistake. My toes are too squashed i was used to the old s-works 43.

Contact me if you live in CT and want these at a cheap price.
