MTB-BFK Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I have an ageing Suunto Ambit 1 GPS watch that I use for riding, which has seen better days from multiple scorpion king re-enactments, general clumsiness, and a rather susceptible ridged bezel design that made the watch catch on to things. The result was that the bezel and face looked like it had been used for metal and woodworking than anything else. Pretty stuffed up. Enter random Suunto fellow (no names). While buying a replacement heart rate strap at a random shop, random Suunto fellow happened to be at same shop, and noticed my bedraggled time piece, and without warning, accosted me for vicious acts of violence against innocent Finnish mechanism. We squared up, and I retorted that I used the device daily, and could not be held responsible for what was clearly my ancestors fault for imbuing me with cr@p balance and skills in my DNA - i am a VICTIM. He then offered to replace the bezel and glass with a stainless steel flat bezel and scratch-free glass for Mahala!! I first thought this to be some fiendish plot with a catch that involved human trafficking, but no, on further thought, I think I was just doing so much damage to their brand by displaying such a beaten and battered specimen that they had to get my poor watch face off the street. I swung by Suunto yesterday, and hey presto, new watch face was installed. I don't know what this would have cost, but this was not a small matter in my view - possibly 1 or 2 grand even. BIG UP Suunto guys - what a pleasure, and you have my business for life. Random acts of kindness like this are rare, and your guys in the Joburg office are a credit to your business. Got my Ambit 2S from Clevertraining last year and the heart rate strap seems to have deteriorated a lot faster than my previous Polar strap did. Been wanting to contact them to see what they can do. Could you PM me their details?
