GrumpyOldGuy Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Strong ride and everyone tried over and over to shake him so I guess honours to him. to be honest though I can't get happy with Valverde winning anything. He sits firmly on the same rung as Vino as an unrepentant doper who has never worked to clean the sport up and still has very dubious links. I know I shouldn't be negative and find a doping thread but he really does elicit the 'oh no, anyone but him' response when you seen him hit the line. Interesting, I dont feel that way at all, I am a big Valverde fan. Lets be honest, his job is to win races and he does that very well, its not to make the fans feel all warm and cuddly about his history, whats done is done, there is no getting around it now and testing at this level remains pretty severe, as far as I am concerned as long as he continues to test clear I dont really care about the past, he remains an exciting rider always ready to give it a bash no matter the circumstances, and, much like 'Berto he hasn't wallowed in self pity and apathy, he was down, he got up and he is moving ahead - I like that.

Thats why I wish they would unban Lance, he would be a real exciting rider to watch in these classics at his age. I am sure he would give it a bash as well!

Pure Savage Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Looks like the sentiment about ex dopers winning is not only shares by okes on the hub

Pure Savage Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 He was never much of a one day racer. He would be spat out the back in an hour now at his age.Really? This is Lance's one day wins. World Cycling Champion (1993) US National Cycling Champion (1993) Clásica de San Sebastián (1995) La Flèche Wallonne (1996) Same amount of wins Mr Valverde had and they were the same events, at one day races before Alejandro's his doping incident. Point being, a cheat was found out, took a year vacation and is now competing again, but another cheat was banned for life? Just leaves me feeling Meh.
T-Bob Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 That tweet by the MTN doc was too good. Resonates even more after the France 2 investigation into microdoping getting around the bio passport and the UCI's evaluation on new doping methods not targeting the performance but the gains around it. Micro doping article here Not strictly classic territory but did anyone see the previously banned Zakarin came in 13 sec (even with a bike change) down on Tony Martin in Romandie ITT to win the overall. It seems this powerhouse had been overlooked by the worlds press, the peloton and more.
tombeej Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Remember all the issues Cav was having with chain drops on his new FSA sponsored crankset? Well, some the bad publicity continues for FSA...
