Cotic Solaris and alternatives

EDIT: see post 17 for how this went down

I've started looking into steel frames as an alternative to getting a dual suspension for my 29er. I want to keep all the components I already have, so it means I'm after 10x135mm drop outs and 31.6mm seat post. I also run a 120mm fork.

So far the options appear to be the Cotic Solaris (which is available through SA dealer) and then Ragley Big Wig (preferred geometry, but they have sold out and 2015 production will only get to market in August).

On-one and others are a bit harder to source it seems, or don't match my components.

There is the Fire Eye Hot Tail too - but no idea on this brand? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/za/en/fire-eye-hot-tail-29-hardtail-frame-2015/rp-prod118454

If I can't find any other options over the coming months, I think I'll get the Solaris - which I suspect isn't a bad choice at all.

I saw that, is a nice frame. Correct size too - need a M (or L Soma it seems).

I've got a Rockshox Reverb, not too keen on replacing it just yet - but maybe there would be swap options with someone...

Fork is straight, but have it with tapered headset atm.

So its just the issue with the seat post.

I'll keep on eye on your ad Rock, could always do the build with standard seat post and then put up the reverb for swap/sale.

Oh yeah, Buzzard was also on the list, but current production run is sold out also.

Have a look at Chromag as a premium option, or the Transition Trans Am. On the Alu side the Banshee Paradox is a great bike: Great geo, short chain stays & 7005 alu. PM me if you need more info & prices.

The Chromag Rootdown has caught my eye before - will send you PM.

so was doing a google search for your requirements..and came across this http://caminade.eu/bikes/simpletrack/?lang=en

One distinctive and sweet looking ride !!

Cheers! Distinctive is one word.. ahah, some interesting curves there :w00t:  Never heard of them, but unfortunately takes X12 axle though.

This is how one should never build a bike: frame last. Really restricts options, but at least there are some!

My hubs aren't changeable with different axles, hence the requirement there.
