Tip for getting kit (especially cycle shirts and hydration packs) fresh as a daisy: put equal part bicarb and washing powder into the machine.

Ok so to give an update. I got some extra clothes, especially a few things for winter. I got what I think are a pair of decent shoes and I bought a second hand bag from the classifieds.

Ā

Has anyone ever bought second hand shoes or clothing? Shirts maybe but bibs... That's like wearing someone else's jocks :-o

Ā

Who does or doesn't wear sunglasses for mtb riding? Pros and cons?

Do you like your eyes? Then wear glasses, be it safety glasses for R50 or something. I skipped riding with glasses once, and ended up getting hit by a branch 1cm from my eye, nice scrape. Like a helmet it is essential safety gear for MTB IMHO.

I assume you mean stink. Don't know about Mr Price stuff but that applies to First Ascent tops. Jeez those things hone.

Ā

Really? Mine don't.

MTB Eye protection is important.

Road not as much but helps to have something on hand when you want it.

Ā

Wrong kind of glasses can potentially fog up. There are some really nice safety glasses out there. My dad got a pair and he is extremely happy @ R80. They yellow tinted for glare reduction and they look better than some sunglasses. Build quality was also better.

Road bike.Ā  No classes.Ā  19 years ago.

Almost lost my eye due to a poisonous bug randomly flying into my eye.

Ā

That and the amount of rocks that have hit my lenses from cars.....

Ā

In the beginning (after the bug incident) I wore mining safety goggles.Ā  Works a charm and they are cheap.Ā  Had a clear, yellow one and dark one.Ā
Problem with eyes are.....you can't go out and get a new one if you damage yours.

Something like this?

Ā

Do they sit securely or do I get an elastic band to tie it up with?

In terms of glasses...I just use safety glasses as I keep losing them....i use the sporty type ones, super super cheap at the safety clothing stores, 2 pairs are clear (yellow for late riding, one normal with a mirror finish) and one dark tint for day rides. 3 pairs.....under 50 bucks....no jokes.Ā

Where did you get them?

Ā

I've heard stories about glasses cracking on a fall and pieces cutting your eyes. I suppose no chance of this with safely glasses.
