Get an accurate digital guage (I use a Topeak) and you can go lower - 1.2 - 1.5 works best for me - 1.6 for rocky conditions. My park tool pump guage is out at the very low pressures by around 1/2 a bar - not great to have consistent pressures.

1.2 will feel like you have additional suspension going on initially - but you do get used to it.

My race partner is running his maxxis down as low as 0.9 and having good results.

I have a RR (snakeskin), which is pretty much done (now). It was on the back - running between 1.2 and 1.5bar. Maybe 1% tar riding (if that much). I've done 2,600km (when I last checked) with it. But it needs replacement now - had it in the pool this afternoon as it's loosing air as well - all over the tyre - sidewalls as well. But, it has served me well.

Its an awesome tire which is why I would love to keep using it, but I've gone through 2 of them since mid 2013 both UST with Snake Skin, although the first one went because I was spending loads of time on the road, so I was hoping this one would last way longer.

Will bring down the pressure to 2 bar or lower see how it goes. Only been trying the higher pressure since December after I had the wheel come off rim on some technical stuff and I have general bad luck with side walls.

Try 2 bar and ensure tyres fitted properly and you should not burp. Check pressure before you ride.

When I bought my last bike it came fitted with a set of RR. I had read poor reviews on the tyre specifically regarding side wall tears and durability. I decided to give them a go and entered a race. About 3/4 the way through the race I had a side wall tear - no fix possible...finished the race as one unhappy cyclist.

My experiences have been that the tyre wears extremely quickly. It is light and has a great tread, however it should be treated as a race tyre not an everyday tyre.

Also I would suspect that you are running the pressures too high. I am assuming you are running tubes? I would probably recommend dropping the pressure to 3 bar or less given your weight.

On the recommendations side - depends what terrain you ride, but I would without doubt recommend Conti Mountain King...I am sure this should come in 26inch. If possible, be hard core and get a 2.4 set up front! Happy days on the decent!

I have that 2.4 on the front of my 26er and it is the puppy's nuts. The only problem is when you have a go on other bikes and you forget that they all don't grip like hell. It is one hellava fun tyre.
