Mod note

Capricorn and marko35s - let's please keep this respectful.

Clearly there are some issues which need resolving, but let's do so in a constructive manner.

If you would like that to be here (on The Hub) then please let's move the discussion to a separate thread.

Although the AGM / committee is certainly relevant to this incident in Tokai, it involves broader aspects which should be addressed in a separate discussion topic.

for those that work horrible hours, that's a backhanded comment. Tell me then, why must the AGM be the only forum to get proper feedback (wtf does that mean to begin with?) and offer constructive advice?

while the backhands are at the ready, what's the new promises made at this AGM?

It was a general sms sent to our neighbourhood watch who then sent it out. If the cops didnt want it out there they wont share it. The more eyes the better. BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING THEM.

Agreed, but the 'dude has a point.

What time was the SMS sent? Can you pm the msg?

1- Better Communication (I'm part of this)

2- Better Communication

3- Better Communication

4- Working within the new framework and building a proper trail management plan (incl new trail)

5- Holistic needs (security worries, working within the plan as Sanparks have laid out for the precinct etc)

Various other things, which should be laid out in the next day or 2 when Dan releases the minutes of the meeting.

So I cannot really comment since I didn't go.. moving on

When you say better communication, it comes from the need to finally start communicating on the plans and process finally coming to fruition. Certainly better comms is the best way to put it, but not because it was poor before.

I think Dan has done an effective job! We don't subscribe to how many likes, or followers we get - although it is a good way to gauge interest, communication does not need to be a frenzy.. it needs to be effective!

How was the presentation? All fact.

As I said before very informative. I like the approach to deal with Parks and to engage them. It would have been better if the person who compiled the PowerPoint presentation was there in person hahaha just joking

It was good. To the point and I think it would have settled a lot of questions, but Cap is right - it should not be the only time where feedback and comments are aired.

Dan did stand up and apologise for the slow communication on his side, but it also touched on how parks have upped their response time and activity relating to the emp and other items.

Re the way forward, we need to reinforce the positive and learn from the negative.

A lot of feedback was given, from both sides. I think the q&a session afterwards was also very good, as people often remember stuff while conversing that they may have forgotten to bring up in the presentation.

All on all though - theres a lot of positivity and potential for growth. I'd like to take up my new role as soon as possible so that I can communicate what is going on, but for that to happen properly we need to meet first and discuss the what how when and why in more detail.

Minutes will do a lot to alleviate some of the questions here, but that can (as Matt has suggested) be on its own thread...

You must take me fishing with you, I can only learn from the best.

What is the approach decided on to deal with parks, is it different from previous years where meeting with them yielded very little if nothing at all? If we don't pressure them nothing will happen

The pressure has been placed, essentially due to the fact that if they do nothing while we have done all they have asked, the revolt will come. Meurant told them that we could not "control the masses" so to speak, and if something is not done soon, it could all become unravelled.

Over the last year, even though it may not seem as if a lot has been done, a lot has been learnt on both sides. Parks are more invigorated, and have plans of their own - bigger than just MTB - that will improve the district for all. MTB is part of that.

Insofar as new trails go, we must wait for the rationalisation project to finish before we can actively implement the strategies that we are working on now, and the committee has been working on over the past year. However - that doesn't mean we can't work concurrently, and get all our documents in order so that when the rationalisation is done, we can effectively say "here you go" and then implement what we can.

Pressuring parks beyond what the committee is currently doing will not yield results. We need to get our stuff in order, work together with them, formalize it all and talk to them at every stage - constantly reminding them that we need it to be as soon as possible. The rationalisation could take 6 months, it could take a year - we just don't know at this stage.

But for existing trails, and for the approvals we've been granted on already logged sections, work will be starting soon. Again - soon is relative - I can't yet give a timeline, but should be able to over the next few weeks. In the meantime, we're working hard to improve the existing trail network to the point that we wanted it (and couldn't get it, for various reasons) back when they were opened.

I don't know if you've ridden the top of Mamba again yet (you should) but that is how the snakes were supposed to be from the start, and how we want them going forwards. It's going to take a lot of work (and EPWP are part of that - 5 days a month for base trail work) but we'll get there.

Thanks Myles, I have ridden fixed up snakes and its much better, like the TT in the beginning.

With regards to trail rationalization, this is probably goes back to the time lines that I mentioned on the FB page. Maybe you can help me to understand what is involved and why no time line can be set to it. 6 to 12 month or more is pretty vague. There must be some kind of broad time line involved, getting parks to commit to those would probably help move things along. If no one actually says we need to do this thing by this date nothing tends to get done and everything just gets pushed out further. Maybe you or someone could expand on that further.

100%, Harry. I'm sure I could tell you more as we go along, but at the moment, as I said, we just don't know.

If we do eventually get a number, I'll let you know. The EMP however is due for public comment pretty shortly. It's in draft format now, and we should see movement on that in the next couple of months.

So to summerise

We don't know who does the EMP and we don't know when it will be completed, as far as I know this has been going on for years. And because we don't have and EMP we cant do a trail rationalization? Not feeling terribly optimistic...
