Removing Road Pedals

Hi guys

Just want to know if any of you guys (and girls) have any tips for removing pedals. I know they are threaded in the opposite direction so its not that.

The pedal on the non driveside came off fairly easily, just a bit of elbow grease. The pedal on my drivetrain side seems stuck. They've been on the bike for over 5 years and I've never taken them off. Any tips for loosening them so that they will loosen when I try turn the allen key? Otherwise I'll just have to take it down to the LBS when I get my other bike serviced. Want to put the pedals from my old bike onto my new one as I just can't justify buying SPD compatible shoes when I ride so rarely.

Thanks a lot all.

Driveside pedal features normal direction thread. So if you use a 15 spanner to loosen the pedal direction will be anti-clock wise. If you use an allen key from the back of the crack arm that direction will be clock-wise.

Other thank that, spray some WD 40/q20 onto the shaft, leave overnight and try again. Often there is alumunium oxidisation. And get a longer lever while the crank is held in place by a friend or a vice.

I had to remove a pedal from a bike that had it on for around 15 years. (my Dad's bike!) Eventually I took the crank off and put the pedal arm on a vice with wood either side. That gave me more stability when using said pedal wrench (or size 15). A nudge with a rubber mallet and it came loose.

PLEASE put anti-sieze grease on the thread before you fit the next pedal!
