Rohan Dennis held on to his Hour Record as Thomas Dekker fell 270m short in Mexico today.

"Dekker went out quickly in his attempt, looking set to break Dennis' record at the halfway point. But his lap times began to creep up, and it was clearly going to be very close until the final minute. In the end, the Dutch rider fell shy by just 270m."

Next up is Dame Sarah Story, Britain's most successful Paralympian, on the Feb 28th.

"Storey will be attempting to beat the 12-year-old record of 46.065km, set by Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel in 2003, at round five of this year's Revolution Series at Lee Valley VeloPark, London."

"Dekker went to Mexico with hopes of reviving his professional career by riding into the record books with a new world hour record. After a career that was interrupted by a two-year doping suspension, he raced for Garmin for four years before his contract was not renewed for 2015.

Hoping to take advantage of high altitude and warm, 87.8-degree Farenheit temperatures, Dekker set out to ride the 60-minute test on the 250-meter track in Aguascalientes. His Koga track bike was equipped with a massive 58×14-tooth gear.

From the start, the organizers were unable to provide regular splits, leading to confusion throughout the attempt.

For the first two-thirds of the race, Dekker appeared to be on pace to challenge Dennis’ record. However, his inexperience on the track showed as he struggled to stay on the black line, and his lap times fell in closing third of the effort. In the end, he came up a mere 270 meters shy of the record."

Wiggins should destroy it. Then it's up to the others to make a contest of it. Fab's says he's over it because it's not the Merckx test so I reckon Tony M will be keen to take revenge after losing the World TT.

Dennis' record is a good one and I reckon he'll have his name back up there in a few years time as he's got some goods.

I reckon Wiggins will set a noteworthy time that will stand for a while. Martin's in my opinion won't beat Wiggin's time, or Dennis' for that matter. The track is heavy on your body, and Martin's gear mashing won't win over guys who are smooth on the track. Wiggin's and Dennis both come from track backgrounds, & know the perils of fast starts and the need for gearing that won't be suicidal in the end. Pure road time trialist's don't always make for good track timed specialist's. But track specialist's always make for good road specialist's. Wiggin's, Thomas, O'Grady, McGee, Boardman to name a few. Should be interesting.
