AM/Freeriders, I'm keen to hear your experiences with different tyre set ups and at the same time get your advice. Presently I'm riding a Trance (26) with a Hans Dampf 2.35 up front & a Rocket Ron on the back. I am totally stoked with the HD. Sticks like glue!!! But want to replace the RR soon with something better & am looking out for any good deal$. I'm riding mainly hard/rocky terrain, but want a capable all-rounder, the wider the better... tubeless, foldable, wire bead, whatever!

At the moment I'm considering:

1. another HD

2. Nobby N.

3. Onza Ibex

Your thoughts?

I run Nobby Nic 2.35 front and Racing Ralph 2,25 back, all as EVO, Pace Star, Snakeskin ... on a Hardtail, and i am very happy.

For the Trance, a Rock Razor would be a option.

I will get this combo, Hans Dampf and Rock Razor on my Reign.

Continental x-king 2.4. Replaced my Rocket Ron with it. Would never put anything else on in the future

In what ways do you find the XKing different/better to the RR? How grippy is it? What conditions have you used it in?

BTW, is it true that a Conti 2.4 is actually narrower than a Schwalbe 2.25? Was one thing that was putting me off considering the X King or Mountain King.

I found the Conti to be a better all rounder than the RR. Especially in the harder rocky/stoney stuff. It has allot of grip. The RR I had allot of problems with. Especially side wall punctures when riding the rocky stuff. I switched to Conti (go for the one that says protection on it ) and no more puntures. My neighbor was an Olympic cyclist that now coaches mountain bikers professionally and she has conti mountain king on back, that should be convincing enough. Hope it helps

Ask Devon what he thinks on the minion vs magic Mary topic. Hint. He used to ride minion up until very recently. He recently tested a magic.

It was  he who told me the AM version worked great out front at the Nationals, Besides they are lighter and cheaper than a MM SG which is all you seem to be able to get here at the moment. And the OP asked about rear tyres if I am not mistaken.

Yeah. LLook, minions are superb tires and super cheap if you can find the wire bead ones. used to ride them myself and far prefer them to the hans dampf that I changed to after them. Superior in every way. But the muddy / magic - sjoe!

and that super gravity Casing is sublime.

Btw he tested the magic after the nationals.

But yes. He did ask about rear and I suggested a Nobby or rock razor. Don't have much experience in stuff other than Weirwolf /wolverine (wtb) High Roller 1 And hans / Rock Razor For when it comes to the rear end.

Do you know of any local suppliers of the minions?
