That looks like the same two guys I got stuck behind earlier in the Waterfront riding 2 abreast, wrong side of the road and with a bike lane on the other side of the lane.

This country boy doesn't even like driving on that section of road, they're obviously lost

So there we have photographic evidence that it (CT) deserves the name Slaapstad

Just about zort cars on the road on a Friday...where is everyone?

On the hub or in the pub, obviously...

It's only dangerous when they get into their cars and start heading home

Funny how we label roads as "dangerous" when, in most cases, the danger is caused by the majority of motorists who drive like homicidal psychopaths, deliberately flout just about every rule on the road and then go home, sit around the braai, whinge about the crime rate and how corruption is ruining the country and there is no respect for law anymore.

Interesting stat - motorists are responsible for about 1000 deaths a month on average. Comparable to the numbers that have been killed by ebola since the outbreak.

Cyclists really are not the problem. How about motorists just grow up and accept the responsibility that comes with driving? Driving is a privilege, not a right.

No sir, blanket statements and assumptions are the problem, as is intolerance and lack of accountability.  Goes both ways.

Its the assumption in this country that motorists have neither culpability  nor responsibility towards other vulnerable road users that is the problem. Look at the comments on news24 about the triathletes that were killed in the recent tragic accident. That is the attitude of the average motorist.

The numbers are neither assumptions nor blanket statements. They are hard facts which the daily experience of driving on our roads bears out.

Yesterday, whilst driving in a 60 km zone - in a suburb  - in the space of 500 meters I was passed by two vehicles which must have been doing at least 100kmh and I was almost hit by some woman talking on her cell phone whilst coming out of her driveway.

In a drive up to Pietermaritzburg from Durban today I saw three serious accidents. BTW no cyclists were involved in any of them.

Considering that is part of the N2 and not the M3 I'm very surprised that people would say it is legal to ride there. I have no facts to say it is illegal, but would be interested to know the reasoning behind it being legal and where on the N2 it actually becomes illegal to ride?

That was my reasoning as well. It's N2 there

The N2 runs through quite a few towns. SSW, Knysna, Wilderness... National road does not mean Freeway.

Isn't it illegal to operate your cellphone while driving? #justsaying...

I also use the right hand lane there if I need to go out at 12 o clock or 3 o clock at that circle. Taking the bike lane there is sure to get you knocked down. And yes, if there is a riding partner with me, we ride 2 abreast at this intersection so that cars don't try and squeeze us off the road. Once through the circle we carry on in single file on the left.

Sometimes you have to use common sense as a preservation tool as the bike lanes in some places is guaranteed to get you knocked over.

It only becomes a freeway once you hit Settlers, after the split.

However, as with many things, just because you can doesn't mean you should.

This photo was taken 5min ago. About 20 of them, its not my photo.

These okes have a death wish.

Someone may want to whisper something to them before they ride down the N2 to stage 2

With the amount of cars around them there, it is far less dangerous than last Sunday in the middle of 500 cyclists.
