We are glad to announce the third event in a new series of four events in the Western Cape, that will make up the offical Western Cape Marathon Mountain bike series for 2015. The series is targeted at the young, the novice and the family but also for the experienced rider. The routes are aimed to be fun and friendly, no technical and specialised bits that only the pro's can ride. The series caters for those looking to get into mountian biking as a sport, the weekend riders and the family conscious.
With great TV coverage, good prize money with provincial points up for grabs, the serious riders are drawn in to compete into a festival of mountian biking.
The third event of the series takes place in Hermanus, where in the last two years a whole mountain biking revolutions has taken the little town by storm.
Back when the Cape Epic first came through the town there were just open sand roads that some mountain bikers did training rides on. Now with the help of Wines 2 Whales, Jan van Schalkwyk and some other passionate mountain bikers have been building trails that are reshaping the landscape around Hermanus! Making it a mountain biking playground that's second to none.
Choose the idyllic life with sea, sun, whales and Mountian biking! We'll bring great meals and snacks, while you share the battle scars and war stories with your mountain bike buddies.

Eina! 800m ascent for the half marathon.  Will be there, but I will have to do much more training on the Helderberg Steilte trails.

We are currently trying to get this a bit down... not sure by how much this will be possible.

No, keep it there.  It's a nice challenge.  I generally prefer the long steady climbs.  It's those short, very steep ones that kills me.  I liked the 2 last climbs this past weekend in the half marathon.  You get into a lekker rythm, and before you know it you are at the top.

No man, put in some seriaaaaas climbs.

Some of those short, lung-busting, loose rocks, choosing your line, front wheel lifting, taste of blood in your mouth type climbs.

Rather a few of those than those long drawn out gravel climbs which have all the roadies passing me!

800m should be fine... The Ashburton series 40km in meerendal was 1149m of climbing.

The Nissan TrailSeeker is aimed to be Provincial race feeding to the National events...

Therefore it should be a step up to the National events.

Also aimed at the mass participation pool :) - but progressively harder jump from 40km - 70km (not just distance / testing all skills)

Jirre, I hate those.  Getting better at it, but I not like putting my chin on the stem to prevent the front wheel from lifting up.

Yes, they are an acquired taste. But one well worth acquiring.

I swear at myself (in my head) as motivation, 'c'mon you bastard, granny could ride this and she's dead. Just flippin' pedal'.

Singing Boney M songs (in my head) also seems to work.

There was a nice little sandy uphill after a bridge on the 40 km route. Very short but quite tricky.

Just to note guys, spoke to one of the guys in Hermanus that knows the route.

He said be prepared for minimum 1 900m climbing for the marathon. Most of it will be in the first 35km going up (1 200m - 1500m)

However, nice route with lots of single track (black route)

Thought I'll share to avoid any horrific surprises
