I'll be in there next year, and have also discovered its not very hard to find sponsorship to help cover the costs. Why? Because I'd like to do it once. I suppose (for me) it's kind of like the comrades of the MTN world. My whole family runs (the comrades). I don't.

On the 9 seconds, that's impressive, any way you look at it.

Then you must give me a few tips on that sponsorship. Looking to do my thirdEpic with a few sponsors, but no luck.....

So far, all through people we know. Not family. We've asked some, and some have actually offered.

Absolutely. I'd love to do it just so that I can prove it to myself, but I neither have the cash nor the time necessary to devote to the training that I'd need to prep for the thing.

Who knows.... 5 years time? Maybe.

Then you can enter as a master....

Please don't take this the way it probably sounds, but what is the general reaction from friends and family and colleagues and/or people you know when you approach them asking for money so that you can ride you bike for seven days?

I'm seriously just intrigued, because if my mates were to come to me with that I'd think they were yanking my chain.

I have been quite selective on who I've asked.... Tried to focus on people who would possibly want to have their brand out on the trail, even though I'm no threat to the contenders in any way/shape/form. Some have said outright, "sorry, can't help". Some have asked for details, and some people have just outright offered to help when not asking them directly but chatting about the race.

It was a bit of a surprise I have to say.. Dunno. Maybe I'm just lucky.

And of course, some outright laughed in our faces. You know, the way a good friend should.
