Tearful Start to a Great Ending

So After having managed to brake a Kona frame and not getting any answers out of the local agent, I waited about 2 weeks and no answer from the international guys either apart from a dealer in the US who was extremely helpful, but for some reason couldn't sell me a process.

So I managed to get a used frame in the meantime to have a bike to ride around while I decide what to do. I was no at the mercy of my insurance as it does not look like I would be getting a warranty replacement due to lack of communication or whatever as at this point I have completely given up on Kona.

So I started chatting to my wife and she confirmed my reservations not to worry with Kona any longer! Then she wanted to know what a bike is gonna cost vs a frame etc. So I laid it out to her. Broke it down price for price positives and negatives about a build vs a complete bike, and also the searching one has to do to find a bike that's right and has all the parts you need with little to no upgrades for near future as well as the prices of bikes like this. She turns around and tells me to get a bike, I was  flabbergasted.  In this time I had already acquired a Morewood frame and the bike was built. When she said this I said hells bells, I aint selling the Morewood, the parts on there takes it over 20k and no one gonna pay that much for it. No problem, huh now I am confused. By now  I had already done 2 rides in tokai and was liking the suspension setup single pivot and all. ( a week later Tokai goes up in flames :(  :(  )

So I ask her, whats up? what do you want? bla bla bla, she just say spoil yourself, u never do!

I started to look around at what was available locally. I just so happened to be at the river club one afternoon and walked into Olympic. Man what a huge difference in service, but anyway. I had a look at the rocky mountain rally edition. They had an orange one in a med, I was almost feeling like well, you know, when there is a girl you like but something not right for you to pursue. I like the bike  a bit tall though for a medium. Well in this case it was the price.

I also started following the thread about a sub 30k enduro bike, but in all honesty I think this thread started either after or just before I had made up my mind.

Then I started looking at the banshee and transition bikes, 650b and 26ers. There are not alot of 26ers available but they are still being made. Phia  has been awesome with quotations etc regarding bikes frames and parts but once again I am not prepared to spend this much cash.

I also been chatting to Brenton from Zion Bikes regarding bikes, frames and parts. What an awesome dude! In the end I bought a Funn stem and bar for the Morewood from him

Another person I absolutely have to mention is Jan from Steilte and Euodia cycles. He made a serious plan to find out prices, and models available etc. This was the only bike shop where I enquired about a Santa Cruz and rocky mountain. Jan almost had me with a Giant reign but I just did not want a Giant. I was prepared to ride to Hermanus to buy a bike from Jan

So overall what I had looked at was

Rocky Mountain

Giant reign

GT force, helion

Cannondale Jekyll

I looked at alot of overseas options as well, like evans, crc, complete cyclist, rose bikes, but decided importing gonna be a pain.

Finally there was one website I kept coming back to and more specifically one model bike. Commencal Meta SX.

I start converting Euros, man what a nice bike, but what a price!! Then I see the meta sx2 what a decent price! I start looking at frames which are almost as much as some of the bikes! My wife asks me why you looking at frames? I thought you buying a bike! I tell here have you seen the prices etc. We worked out that bike prices have increased by close to 200% over the last 5 years and she says well thats inflation etc just order a bike!

So I contact diald bikes to see if they have any Meta SX available. Nope nothing, but they can order! Interesting stuff. I leave it to rest for a week. By now I am so confused as to  what to take. I check the specs of the different bikes vs their prices. They quite fairly paired, but as with most of them its either cheaper forks and shocks for a cheaper price otherwise the bike is 20k more.

For me the Commencal Meta SX ticks all the right boxes, but man I couldn't settle for the price. The SX2 was significantly cheaper, but that's because the parts list is significantly different and one being no dropper. So I am like well I have a dropper, the fox 34 ctd is not bad but not the same as the kashima coated version on the sx and rims and hubs etc, but overall still a decent build.

So I decided to order through Diald Bikes. Andrew has been awesome!

27 days later countless times out on the Morewood and here she is

This dent and scratches on the box has me worried

Right to be concerned, but its an eyesore scratch caused from the courier company most likely

Almost ready to roll

First ride yesterday, how awesome this bike rides. The feedback it gives is so different. Also I have to state that apart from my hardtail I had many years ago, this is the only dual suspension bike that I can stand and pedal. It just feels right. The other bikes felt to cramped and too soft. O, and I was in descend mode when I stood and pedalled.

Congrats dude!

Andrew shipped my Meta AM in and Brenton built it into a trail eating monster. You will love your sled as it like it has no limits :)

We are fortunate to have guys like Brenton and Andrew who do an amazing job at servicing what is certainly a neglected segment of the market.

Brenton has an infinite supply of the coolest kit for any upgrades you may dream of ....

Hope you have many years of happy trails!

Congrats dude. As luck will have it, you will get your Kona warranty frame. Oh wait, it's Kona... You will have to write that one off and just enjoy the Commencal

Thats exactly what I did. I didnt bother dedicating my time to it, as my insurance is awesome and basically used that money and scored 2 bikes.
