jyzelle Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Hi Id like to know what your thaughts are on the Trek 3700 MTB, Avelanche AX250 MTB and Mongoose Rockdale AiX MTB?My budget doesnt cater for a R11 000 bike, therefore, Im looking at alternative higher - entry level bikes. Eugene Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 There are some very good bikes under R3000.00. Most bike shops are discounting their left over 2007 stock, so it is worth shopping around. Avalanche bikes havn't built up a reputation for themselves as yet and from what I've seen both Trek and Mongoose seem to be a little over-priced compared to bikes such as Merida, Silverback, Schwinn etc. Eugene2008-03-31 05:13:22
Hog_ Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 If you can stretch your budget to around R3500 you should be able to pick up a GT Avalanche 3.0 new. I think this may be you best bet, although I'm not an expert. Otherwise, look for a 2nd hand Mongoose Meteore Comp!
GT_Zaskar Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 I agree with Hog, try your best to up your budget to +-R3500 and go for the GT avalanche range or even the mongoose tyax elite. Very good entry level bikes. Maybe your LBS will even throw in some freebies like a helmet and gloves....
daggavis Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 If your max is strictly R3k I would say buy a Silverback Alpine for R3105. Got deore f/r derailleurs, deore rapidfire shifters and its a 9 speed. The wife has got one and she loves it.
