yellow hubbers,  i'll be camping at sondela from 22-24 May and i am thinking of doing Sondela cycling classic MTB race & road race or will it be just a waste of my camping weekend :whistling: . anyone doing this race or done it before (please share your experience)?

Four things you need to look out for with Sondela MTB race:

1. Beeeeeg, very big, thorns.

2. Sand.

3. Occasional warthog hole in the middle of the singletrack.

4. Thorns......the beeeeeg ones.

PS: O ja, did I mention the thorns. You are safe when you stick to the middle of the single track, but it is a 50/50 if you explore some grass veld with a passing manouvre. Otherwise flat, fast and numerous twist, turns and switchbacks. You will enjoy it.

I got my number this morning. You start in age groups, not in the alphabet soup. 30-39 starts at 06:40

The race is also 108km now, not 102km, due to road conditions.

numbers and start times have been sent out ...  i'm starting 6h45 , doesnt say A,B,C or D etc.. maybe its F

Also off 06:45 (still need get away from Middelburg to get my race numbers).

If that is you in the pic then we won't be seeing much of each other as you look very quick

Interesting start schedule.

I will be on the road Saturday and back again on Sunday with my fatbike. All depending on my flu.

Expect a cold start, fast race, wind and some potholes on Saturday. For Sunday it will be sandy at times with FAST singletrack and lots of turns and twists. Great fun,

Oh and thorns.....(Sorry BH)

I had a good, but tough ride today. Great event I thought. Such a pity they dont get the support they deserve. Did a 3:32 @ 30.5km/h on my 29er. Damn it was lonely out there :P.

I saw a few mechanicals, but no crashes thankfully.

brr is correct, fortunately it warmed up nicely ... Talus i didnt see you ...

Lost the bunch on the 50km mark when i missed the surge and couldnt close the gap , cramped a bit in the last 9 ks after riding with a lekke group and a tandum . 2h59 ... cut it close

I expected a better turnout but a good day overall . Cheers
