Personally, I would buy 2nd hand if I had a buddy who knows his road bike stuff to thoroughly check the bike out for me. For R9000 you can buy a seriously good road bike with good components that will last many years and when you sell it you won't lose much money. On a new lower end bike (as above) you will lose lots when you sell it, even if it is as new. Make sure you do your homework well on specs, price and make sure you get the right size bike.

You can also check out Cycle Traders in Salt River. Avron is an honest guy and has been trading in good higher end 2nd hand bikes for many years. You'll probably pay a little more than you would on Gumtree, but you won't take the same risk of getting scammed or buying a stolen bike.

Otherwise check The Hub Classifieds. Sellers are rated and that together with how long someone has been here on the Hub, will quickly give you an idea of whether you are dealing with an honest person. The bad ones invariably get called out.

hey all, i can get a raleigh rc 3000 with tiagra groupset for R3500, excellent condition. Do u guys think its a good buy?

Very important to do you homework.

Most important factor is to get the right size bike for you.

I started off with an RC3000 Compact.
It was the wrong size and compact frame for large guy is a no no.

You can really find some good deals her on the Hub but you need to sort out your foundation (eg: frame size) before you can decide what you want.
