Please issue lights to bicycle commuters

Hi All

 

This is just a general request to all fellow cyclist.

 

Having witnessed yet another way to close call of a cyclist commuting to work, almost getting knocked over this morning, it got me thinking.

The next time I visit my LBS (or in my case, the tones of stores I visit regularly), I will buy one or two entry level safety lights and keep them in my car. Flasing red ones

When I see a cyclist commuting to work, without any lights, I will try and give him one (without causing an accident of course)

I am talking about your low LSM groups who’s bike is their main means of transport, not some dude on an expensive bike who can afford his own.

 

The aim is to try make cycling safer and increase the visibility of cyclists (on more ways than one).

 

Please note that I do not having anything to do with selling or importing lights (I wish I did now J)

 

Let me know your thoughts and who would be interested in doing something. Maybe we can try formalize it to improve the reach, but for now, if everone of use gives out one or two lights in your area, it will make a huge difference.

Lights or reflective vest is all great. Aim is just to increase visibility

also means no need to purchase replacement batteries and less chance of the lights being stolen off the bikes by others.

Might encourage them to become car guards, or be stolen by car guards

We were "slapped" with these things at the freedom ride. They're actually pretty effective. I imagine they're pretty cheap. I was actually going to ask them about the leftovers.

 

Now that the mornings are darker and with load shedding its crazy. This morning there was a guy, no front lights, no back lights - madness.

 

I have a few of those cheap Duracell ones that I bought when I stared riding. I will pay it forward. I don't ride ride on the road anyway.
