New Klapperkop trails

Just got back from riding the new stuff at KK. And it is PROPER! Tight switchbacks, rocky descents and a rock drop that will claim collarbones.

Who's keen for a "take back our trails" ride at KK, Fountains, GK and VM soon?

Saw this post on the Pta East Facebook Group from Heather Muller

"Warning: Be careful when riding at Fort klapperkop. Was riding this afternoon (07/02/2015) on the tar when I saw 3 suspisious men run out of the bushes, over the road infront of me&down the hill into the bushes again. When I came back up the hill I found they had just mugged 2 men. The 3 "suspicious "looking guys had held them down at knife point, mugged them of all their valuables/ car keys, etc leaving them stranded. Word of warning - dont stop at view points and keep cycling."

Really pisses me off, new trails but seems like we will not be able to enjoy this....

Be careful out there.

Anyone keen for a ride at KK this Sunday (24/05/15)?  Trying to get a big enough group together to go an explore the good work I hear has been done there, but with all the hype about security issues, don't want to come short on numbers.  My mates have all gone soft on me and going to ballet lessons or something.  PM me if you're keen.

Hi C.  I am keen to go on Sunday, as long as there are a number of peeps on the trails I am sure it will be ok.  Generally the weekends are busy.

I'm easy, but was thinking earlyish, say 07:30-08:30 if that works.  Earlier is too dark now and later screws up the entire day.

Will also go early-ish, so see you on the trails...

In an attempt to get a reasonable number of people out there at the same time, I'd suggest anyone interested in this ride to meet at Starting Point 2 at 07:45 to ride at 08:00.  Starting Point 2 per below pic or on this map: http://www.klapperkop.org.za/#gallery

If anyone else is keen to join, please just email me on muschook@gmail.com

I always thought the red route was other way round

I guess that explains SpilledCoffee's post on riders going the wrong way.   :w00t:

Haha, probably. But there was an arrow pointing you down the way I always went, was a gnarly bit of downhill, but so good. Also never encountered anyone going up that way. Even the local wildebeest was running down the track with me (that was super scary  )

Also always went down the track, will not be able to do it the other way around....

I agree hey, definitely a downhill track, haha! But I'm glad I'm not the only one...

It used to go that way but now there are a few switchbacks that bring you out at the top. Trust, it's almost easier climbing it on the new track.

I'll be sure to hit it downhill then.  It's generally more fun going that way (down) anyway.
