Afaik the OneForty 650 is designed for 150 - 160mm travel in the front. The 'Forty' is the rear travel. Their website says 150mm.

Buying Fox evo stuff now and already planning on upgrading stuff that you don't have yet sounds like a terrible idea. It will cost you thousands in the long run and will ruin the bike in my opinion, both performance wise and in aesthetics... OneForty + Pike is a perfect match.

It sounds like you want 140mm upfront and in that case the OneTwenty with a Revelation would be my pick.

SLX stuff is fine. Perhaps brakes you can go Deore as they are plenty good and save a few bucks. Perhaps get XT crank and 32t NW which you can keep forever. Later in the year you can upgrade the rest of the drive train to XT 11 speed for about R3k.

What wheels you have in mind? They can be pricey! Friends have Flow Ex on Novatech hubs and they are holding up very well.

My idea is 140 front yes just like my trance 2 was... In fact for now I will settle for all the same level components as the trance 2 was just with the pyga frame. I am not in a position to drop 50k.... In fact om hoping to get away with under 30. So ja.... I know the frame and rear shock is 20... 5k for Slx from cwc. That leaves me very tight with 5k for the rest which I don't see happening. So let's say 35 then.

Yoh dude, not sure this is going to work out well. Hopefully it does for you but the Pyga is a 50k bike with SLX level components so I have no idea how you are going to get away with under 30k. I know this as before I got the Reign the Pyga was also a top contender but no matter what I did it was a 50k bike with mid levelish parts (SLX, Pike etc) and that was before that rand went to ****.

I would check with Pyga if a 140mm fork is within recommended spec. A shorter fork will increase the head angle and affect handling of the bike. Some manufacturers void warranty of frame if a non spec fork is fitted.

I got to ask why sell the Trance (which is a great 140 bike) for a OneForty which is not 140/140 and then bastardise it with a cheap fork and parts? Each to his own I guess. Upgrading it over time will end up costing you many thousands more.

Perhaps look and wait for a 2nd hand one? I know of a 1 year old OneForty 650 with Pike, Flow ex rims etc that went for R35k 2nd hand.

Sorry to be negative and of course this is just my opinion, perhaps others will differ. The Pygas are great bikes.

In my op send as much money as you can on suspension and get a Deore groupset for the moment until you can upgrade. You will notice a much bigger difference between a Pike / Fox 32 and a xt / deore setup.

Good luck with the build mate- a pic of the end result would be sweet.

Once you are done come christen it in the Karkloof where a bike like that belongs

Couldnt agree more,The pascoe deserves nothing less than a top of the line fork. And trying to build one under R50k is near impossible. I built one mid last year and got a bargain on the frame & pike and it cost me R48k. I would rather wait and build it up as you desire rather than settling. It's phenomenal bike and you won't regret the patience in building if that's even an option. Good luck dude, awesome choice.

I am in agreement with my friend Brawler. Running the Pascoe with 140mm fork may compromise the geometry a bit. Pygas are like "shlong reverse mullet" bikes. Party in the front, business in the back. On a trail shredding machine like the OneForty, you're going to want a stiff fork and solid wheelset to get the most out of your machine. Each to his own of coarse. Those 2 components would be top of my list. The X-Fusion forks are great value if you ask me. You'll be able to save a bit there. Flows are the trail staple for a reason. You might be able to save a bit by going for Inferno or Funn wheels. A lot depends on your choice of hubs though. You might have to relinquish a dropper post unfortunately.

All in all, this could be a fun build if you're prepared to wait a bit and spend on the parts that frame deserves. You won't regret it.

Alternatively, Commencal frames are going for 15.5k on Dial'd and they come with an invitation to join the free masons. (I'm joking, we're friends now)

Happy trails man

Ha Ha plenty other bargains and great bikes out there. But hang on for a 2nd hand one like brawler said.

IL either get a reign 2, trance 2 again... Or a cheap as hard tail and save up.... Very tempted to just go for the reign 2

I got One10 29 with full XT, Stan’s no tubs, Rock Shox Revelation RCT3 and Rock Shox Monarch RT3 for R45k by a guy I Fourways

What kind of riding do you do?

I don't think commuting in a reign is going to be that much fun.
