140mm is even better! It's more about the slack geometry than the mm's though. I have a 130mm santa cruz 5010 that is waaaaayyyyyy faster (and safer) down a hill than any anthem, yet Ill stay with an anthem on a climb everyday.

You might stay with an anthem on a climb by being fitter than the anthem rider, just like an anthem rider might stay with a 5010 rider by being a better descender.

For me the amount of downhill and technical stuff I do vs the amount of climbing and cx stuff makes an anthem a better fit for me... unless of course someone offered me a 5010 in which case I would happily take it!

Anthems have a well known problem with the frames cracking and/or breaking just under the seat post. Ask any bike shop and they will agree with me.

That said, the Anthem is a fantastic bike regardless of the above problem would be my bike of choice.

Fixed.

My 2012 29'er frame cracked a few weeks ago.

Replaced and rebuilt in 3 days.

Saying they like to break, is that an observation from internet forums or from dealing with warranty queries?

The internet will always make problems seem much worse than they are because more people will complain about cracks in frames than people who do not have any issue.

I know of 3 Anthem owners I ride with on occasion who has no issues, including my own Anthem X1.

I can prob not generalize like that but mine broke and a friend of mine broke too. All on the same spot at the frame. I know a two more poeple that had the same problem. But the are good value for money. And i really did enjoy the bike a lot. I just think the Trek is a better opion in my opinion

My point was that with greatly improved suspension and frame designs, longer travel trail bikes are not as slow up the hills as everyone (including yourself if I may say so) believes, yet they are a lot better on the downs.

Owned a trek FS, loved it to bits.

Ride a Silverback Sprada 2 now, best bike I've owned at the price point.

Would not want a Giant even for free. That Overdrive headset and the fact that Cajees sells them puts me off.

Onto my fourth anthem and have never broken one of them. I'm currently riding the carbon advanced model and it's amazing.

These two are very similar but the trek seems to be slightly better spec'ed.I also dig the colours of the trek.

I suggest that you ride both and pick the one that fits your body better.remember that you have to be sure that the geometry of the bike that you choose suits your build. I ride an anthem because the geometry suits my body build.

Ride them both and listen to your body. Ensure that you have the bike set up properly before you ride it

Morning all

Looking for some advice, I am in the market for a Dual 29er around 30K and have narrowed down my choice to the following 2 bikes

1. Giant Anthem x29

2. Trek Superfly FS8

I am an experienced rider and am entered into Wine to Whales so am looking for a good bike for multi-stage races.

Both bikes seem to be very similar so I would appreciate any "insider information" as to which bike is better and why?

Or is there another bike out there I am seriously missing out on?

Thanks all

So Swagg, pray tell, did you come to a decision?

very good choice, though.

Very true! The 2015 models are a revelation. Particularly the carbon models. Wide rims and droppers across the entire range and 650B and 29er specific frames. So nice!

I am on the older trek superfly carbon and I can proudly say it is 1 of the best bikes I've ever ridden. Great traction up those loose steep climbs seeing that it's a longer wheel base bike. On the downside it is a bit of a challenge to get it around tight switch backs because of its length. The fox performance series shocks works great on the bike.

I have been on a anthem for about 2 months and the bike's geometry and maestro suspension just didn't work for me.

Oh and Trek also give a lifetime warranty.

I asked advice on those 2 bikes as these were in my price range. Subsequently I have managed to source a brand new Stumpy within my price range so I simply cannot ignore this option.

Thanks you to everyone who gave their advice and I did not ignore it, I just came across a better deal.

P.S. No need to be rude to people you dont know and without all the facts !!!!

Just some light-hearted ribbing.

I'd also take a Stumpy over an Anthem or Superfly any day of the week.
