Seems the fatbike was not such a bad idea after all!!! I floated by quite a lot of people heading to the bushes or falling over in some of the deeper sand. It also stuck like glue on the single track. Only issue was the more rocky up- and downhills where I did get bounced around a bit.

Show of hands: Who bought stuff at the bicycle shop? I resisted for 3 days, but bought some Specialized stuff before heading home yesterday.

New helmet, new saddle, new cycling shoes, new pair of gloves :D

Tubes or tubeless?

Tubes or tubeless?

I ran tubeless at about 0.6 front and 0.7 at the back. I picked up 1 thorn that I had to plug, the other one is still in the tire and the pressure is still holding.

Then it wasn't you who we saw on the third day - a fatbike was next to the road fixing a puncture in a tube a big as a car's. How many fatbikes were there?

Is this you?

That was the guy with the Titan next to the road. We were 3 fatties - the Titan, Addo on the "Rasta" branded Momsen and I was on the Spez Fatboy. I can't open the photo at work, but if the number is 17-2, it's me...

Pic links to the KalChal facebook page - an album shared by the photographer. Some very nice pics there!

What I dont' understand is: why is this event not sold out in a few days? Why is it not as popular as (or even MORE) than Sani2C or Berg&Bush?

It's seriously some of the best riding I've done this year - on par with mount Paul on Joberg2C. With far less climbing :)

I was right behind the titan fatboy when he hit a HUGE rock in the descent into a riverbed - saw it happen right in front of me and almost got klapped by the rock bouncing up.  Tyre sounded like the air hose at the garage there was sooooo much air leaking out.

I chatted to him (oke with a beard, didn't catch his name) at the end and he mentioned that the problem was that he didn't have a patch big enough for the hole until someone helped him out.

He took it in good spirits though.

I have emailed the organisers to find out what's happened to the final results and where they can be accessed.

.

I will update as soon as they let me know.
