sani2c Feedback

Not sure if I wasn't paying attention, but I didn't see a single beggar on route.

(maybe only a problem for the late starting batches?)

There was a few kids wanting to push us uphill on day 1, but pro bono :whistling:

My negatives:

- Scottburgh parking

- Sizing of the clothing (we're not obese Americans)

- Mackenzie showers

- Start time SMS's incorrect

- Maybe give out normal still water not flavoured (I hate it), or have both.

Pro's - same as most of the above.

Good:

1.All the single track, Umko descent in particular. A little clogged in places and could be more technically difficult to add interest but a great ride.

2. Know what you getting. It's peaked in quality and price but at a reasonable level.

Bad

1. The silly floating bridges. If you want to add half an hour on days 1 and 3 queueing rather have some technical single track or bull run. I'm not a fan of my bike and I swimming in dirty, salty water.

2. Minor - the water at the Jolivet showers was pathetic in my section. A warm dribble only.

Thanks everyone for the excellent response so far. This will go a long way to prioritising certain elements of the race and allowing for the most noticeable improvements.

Thanks again and keep the responses flooding in.

Kudos to the team for coming to the hub for positive and negative feedback...

Feel its very rare these days for an SA business to be honest and direct with their customers and take everything negative on the chin... in the search for perfection. Great work guys!

This was my 4th Sani and as always it was a real highlight!

If I have to summarize the good points it would be:

  1. Awesome trails - there are bits I really like on all 3 days and is worth coming back for.
  2. The food - cannot believe that it is possible to provide food at this quality for that many people.
  3. The water points - every single person working there looks like they really want to be there and the food was great.
  4. Fellow riders - just an all-around good vibe with lots of patience and encouragement along the way.
  5. General organization was top notch!

The bad....

  1. Supergroup seeding - It was evident that the guys not only did not have the technical skills to ride in the bunches they were seeded at, but they also lacked the trail etiquette required to ride there.
  2. Supergroup seeding....
  3. Supergroup seeding....

For me this was the only real negative that really detracted from an otherwise awesome event.

Pro's

1 - Jolivet is a whole load better - showers, eating area the whole lot.

2 - Water points good as always

3 - Glencairn farm was also great, nice to have a few stands to buy last minute goodies for the ride.

4 - Bike wash at Mackenzie.

5 - Trail - good as always although a bit rutted in parts.

Bad

1 - Supergroup riders in D batch for the Adventure . One of the main attractions of S2C is the descent into the Umko. This was my 6th ride and without a doubt the worst descent into the valley. We stopped 4 times waiting for unfit novices to step over streams and walk around switch-backs. Complete balls-up!!!! We only got onto free flowing track 2km from the river!!!

2 - Pls can you get a physio at Mackenzie, we only had the option to book one at Jolivet. The massage guys at Mackenzie are not qualified to treat injuries.

3 - Clothing - not as impressive as previous yrs. S2C has set the bar with the quality of its clothing in the box but has dropped the ball this year.

No other real negative points.

you know the story of the boy who didn't say a word...year upon year he didn't speak until one day at the dinner table he said "please may I have some salt?" Dumbfounded, his parents asked..you can speak, but why have you been quiet all these years?..to which he replied "because everything has been perfect until now"

looks like the farmer made a proper balls up this year

Good points

1) The trails

2) The South African people. Invariably friendly and welcoming both out on the trails and in the race vilages (give yourselves a pat on the back and a round of applause!)

3) Jolivet. Great venue great food

4) Glencairn Farm, big improvement

5) The evening race round ups, especialy the Jolivet one were very well done

Minus points

1) Queing for twenty minutes for a shower at MacKenzie

2) Queing for ten minutes to take a dump in the morning at Jolivet

3) Poor comunication of the varying of batch start times

4) Not really a Sani2c issue but all the hotels in the Himeville area seemingly block booked, presumably by sponsors, was a pita

5) Poor riding skills and trail ettiquette. I've not got a problem with people who are slow and steady, but people who are slow because they can't ride off road are a different matter.

Can I add a 6)?

6) I hate tents!

Re the clothing, not realy a moan but I would prefer to get cycling kit rather than leisure wear, and I would be happy to buy some Sani2c cycling kit but didn't see any for sale

Interesting. Didn't ride Sani2c but rode Joberg2c, a few weeks prior.

Had the same complaints about finish logistics and branded clothing.

But will still recommend the event.

Was my 2nd Sani first 2012.  Both trail.

Pros -  Glencairn and Jolivet - well done great venues

             Food - superb

             water points - Superb

The vibe and the route is awesome.

Staff -  The Sani2c staff were brilliant and very helpful.

Cons-  The descent into Umkomaas, why cant people ride a bleedin bike downhill.  This to me ruined my experience as the Umko descent in 2012 was why i came back.  It painful going down that beautiful trail behind people that cant ride, dont care and seriously have no business being on a trail like that.

Day 2 waterpoint1 distance to waterpoint 2  ( Nandos)  is to far.  Lots of riders ran out of water on the climb to Nandos.   Some were getting pretty dehydrated. It was hot and slow going and   I suggest putting a water tank at the bottom of the climb where the spectators gather.

No other cons for me.

Being my 11th, I feel this year is the first year to create awareness of some issues

Good points for the Adventure

  • The start venue, logistics perfect
  • The route as usual
  • Jolivet improvements
  • Bike Washes
  • GPS routing

Challenges

  • 1st water point on day 2 running out of clean cups
  • Waiting 30 mins to cross the bridge on day 1
  • Waiting 45 mins to cross lagoon at the finish on day 3 when you are less than 1Km from the finish  (the waiting for the above was probably put down to the 5 min batch intervals)
  • No Nandos at the start, was there before race briefing and they had packed up
  • The coffee situation, the Coffee Co. was clearly under catered
  • The evening meal the night before the start at Glencairn, obviously the school knows how to cater

Best 5:

The start - much more professional and user friendly

Jolivet upgrades - tiled floors and plenty showers

Overall upgraded feel (since Joberg2c in 2013)

Vanilla Milk

Chill zones

Worst 5:

The Supergroup rolling road block (stop seeding *** riders near the front because they are one of the sponsors - it ruins it for everyone)

The finish - its not lekker being sweaty, dusty and moeg then having to pack box, bike etc on public area and having to drag everything 2km to the nearest parking. Finish at the school is MUCH better.

Push of a climb has been turned into a highway - put some more rocks back on it :-)

Ok thats only 3 - this race rocks!!!

Have done a number and really enjoy.

Good:

1. Constant supply of food / drink / goodies - perfectly happy with this :)  The free USN stuff is an added treat.

2. Jolivet - what a change!

3. Trails - awesome, in what ever state they are - swept is good, unswept is good.

4. Mackenzie toilets - so much better than portaloos

5. Massage service - love it.

5.5. Constant change - keeps things interesting.

Bad:

1. Would be nice to have an alternate route for the tar out of Glen Cairn

2. Showers at Mackenzie - queues.  One of the delights of the race has been unhurried showers with plenty hot water and no queues.  This was the only real complaint that I have for this year's race.  If you could extend the mens showers and maybe put up another tent for women, that would sort that out?

3. Showers at Jollivet were a bit luke warm.  Yep, hot showers are nb!

4. The end is a bit of a shambles - did prefer the the finish at the school even if it meant the final uphill!

5. The bike wash at Jollivet needs organising - the one at Mackenzie was 100%, they just need to transfer that organisation to Jolli.

But, basically apart from the showers, I'm pretty stoked with the race as it is.  The Supergroup guys we just over-took.

Favourites:

  1. The route and quality of the track were outstanding
  2. Water points were excellent especially first water point on day 3 and a special mention to the kind ladies cleaning lenses at the 2nd water point
  3. Jolivet was an excellent venue especially bathrooms and showers
  4. Start facilities at Glencairn
  5. General attitude and helpfulness of S2C staff and volunteers

Worst:

  1. SUPERGROUP, SUPERGROUP & SUPERGROUP! Seriously, bunching them all together in group D really spoils the event for everyone else. I understand they are title sponsors but the technical level of the bulk of these riders was way below parr. It created frustration and riders started to do silly things to get past (a pack) of these riders.
  2. The showers at Mckenzie
  3. Very little variety of beers at the bar. Would be an excellent opportunity to showcase local craft beer.
  4. The queue at the finish (Adventure) for the bridge.
  5. A silly thing but is there no way you could change to one man tents (like W2W)

Hi,

The Good

1. Start at Glencairn farm,

2. New Jolivet

3. The Umko - best ever

4. Water points - as always

5. The Adventure

The Bad and Ugly

1. The quality and sizes of the kit we received was bad, really bad. This is not the high standard as per the reputation of this event. Not having Salomon and Aca Joe was a big mistake, the Chinese grade was just not up to standard.

2. Super Group in Adventure - do they own the race, looks like it, their approach sucks. Make a separate event from them, then they can do what they want, they are not part of the event, they think they are the event.

3. MacKenzie showers, not sure what went wrong but it was bad, very bad.

4. Finish at Scottburgh. The congestion the chaos, parking.

5. Is this still Sani2C, or becoming a corporate driven event - not the Sani I am use to

Even with this mentioned, I will be back for one more year

Sani2C Adventure

The Good

  1. The new start at Glencairn farm,
  2. The decent into the Umko Valley - trials were in good condition in this part,
  3. New Jolivet,
  4. Water points,
  5. The Adventure

The Bad

  1. SuperGroup, what the hell happened. The start all over the show, even non finishers of day before start in C batch, They suck, caused chaos down the Umko valley - they have no technical skills.
  2. The quality and sizes of the clothing - by losing Salomon and Aca Joe and being replaced by Chinese quality, not good. The race always had the reputation for being the best in this regard.
  3. Showers at MacKenzie - bad, very bad. Showers at Jolivet was good - if we had hot water.
  4. Finish at Scottburgh, chaos, parking problems, un organized
  5. SuperGroup, SuperGroup
