I suppose all big events today started out like this?

The Attakwas started out relatively cheaper (and much smaller) and along the line earned their right to charge a premium.

For any new expensive event, everyone are not just going to give the organisers the benefit of the doubt that the premium is justified and there will be criticism - remember the Munga?

How long ago are we talking +10 years?

Their price today I'm sure is based on running cost & tiny or huge profit?

Likewise for this new event I would Imagine?

Gutted to be missing this inaugural event, had my knee op almost 3 weeks ago. Oh well enjoy it & should there be any hiccups or teething issues as with all new events, it will be ironed out for those of us missing out this year.

I'm pretty confident Pieter will have smooth and flawless inaugural event. He pulled off Transkaroo with out any issues since 2012.

thats awesome to hear. Enjoy!!

Yep, I'm in. I checked out some of the passes we will deal with on http://www.mountainpassessouthafrica.co.za/ and it looks like we are in for a scenic ride.

Edit, I have emailed them for the GPX of the route, but thus far this is the closest I can come up with myself : http://vlottenburg.co.za/cederberg_100_miler.gpx

I think the scenery is going to be amazing! I hope we are not suffering so much that we cant enjoy it.

I am wondering how many entries they have? Two other amazing events on the same day.

There are no other events on the same weekend that can compare to this - so no excuses there. The price is right, if you have done TransKaroo before then you will know you get a lot for your money. Considering what some people spend on their bikes and the maintenance thereof I find it absurd when the very same people claim events are too expensive.

What will be interesting is how many people pitch on Saturday. I have seen very little advertising for this event and there is not a lot of buzz around it. Personally I hope it is a success as I would like to do it every years. K2C is just too far of a drive for me and after I have done my 10th K2C I'm going to stop.

We really need rider to support events like this. The more long distance solo-friendly events we have the better.

I agree, also a little worried about the number of entrants. Besides this hub thread, I have seen little advertising or talk of the race. The Facebook page hasn't been updated since the middle of August. I was deciding between this and the Picketberg race. I don't want to spend the whole of Saturday on my own slogging on a gravel road while everyone else is hammering incredible single track in a different race... Oh well, entry paid and accommodation booked weeks ago.

The Transkaroo FB page was last updated in 2014... Maybe the organisers are just not particularly sharp on social media..

Let us know how it went, would be interested to do this race in future.
