ZTR FLOW EX upgrade or not?

Looks like this is getting to techinical. Why not just get on the bike and ride? I mean, how many milliseconds will you lose etc? If all else fails, lose 1-2kg and train a few km's longer, you become stronger etc. Why go through all this marketing hype BS and not ride your bike?

Cool, thanks guys. Understanding it a bit better now.

I recently went from Sun ringle inferno 23's to Wtb 123's. The internal width of the WTB is 23mm compared to the former rim at 18mm.

I am running the same pressures and have noticed a dramatic change as a result of the tyre not being as conducive to trying it's best to roll off the rim. It holds it's shape better, if I am explaining it correctly.

I will play around with lower pressures but also want to avoid rim strikes which my "bomb over anything" style seems to promote.

When you roll your tyre off of the rim it's a bit longer than milliseconds. Nevermind hellova frustrating!!!!

erm, cos we're at work? Trying to stave off boredom and keep ourselves entertained? Well - my mind is, at least, given that I'm still recovering from gastro...

Plus it's not marketing hype. There is a definitive difference between narrow and wide rims, and it's not in favour of the narrows.

Plus it's not about milliseconds. That's not the point of MTB. Point is to have fun. If it allows you to have more fun, or have a better experience on your bike, then do it.

100% correct. More lateral rigidity as the bead isn't as pinched as it was before...

Thanks everyone, i am busy installing my ZTR's.

I have came across a problem. The ZTR has a 10 or 9 mm thru axle in front and my old wheels is 15mm. I think both hubs is DT swiss, but different models. I managed to install the 15mm bearings and shaft into the ZTR. The end caps is not fitting as snug as it use to. Everytime I install or remove the wheel, the end caps fall out. Do I need new caps? Can I get this at any bike shop?

YOu may just need new o-rings. If not, you should be able to get new end caps from your LBS (who will order them for you)

Hi Rainier

Are these the wheels you bought? https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/138306-ztr-flow-ex/

I was told those are Specialized hubs which cannot be converted. If you are having trouble with fitting axles or end caps, you may be working with incompatible parts.

If the front is the one on the right (and I think it is) then that's a DT Swiss hub. It's their skewer, and I know that they have that different flange size on each side.

These are them. And if they are what you say then I lost out bigtime   I was about to buy.

yeah, I'm sure that that is a DT hub at the front

Looks to me like a Spez 9mm through axle hub. They're not convertible, but are supposedly as stiff as a QR15.

Exactly what it is. It is a 9mm thru-axle from DT Swiss which Spez spec on a lot of their bikes. Very stiff and fit on 9mm QR forks - rear drop-outs too (I think).
