RS SID RCT3 or SID XX?

Solo air needs a new air spring shaft to change travel. On the old dual air forks you could add or remove spacers or just play around with negative spring pressure to adjust travel.

As for the extra adjustments on the RLT and RCT3, the LSC adjust on the RCT3 is more useful than the gate control, but gets more important the more travel you've got. On a 100mm fork it's not going to make a massive difference, but on a 120 it'll start to become useful.

mmmm, some food for thought

Not wanting to repeat fork issues as I have had with the Fox, I should go for the "sturdier" less flexing Reba.

For 100mm Reba RL will be fine.

For 120mm Reba RLT will be better - Reba doesn't come with RCT3 so LSC is not going to happen but RLT have gate control.

This renders the original thread title invalid... completely. Now it's a question about travel.

Geez.

Thanks guys (I think...)  ;)

Seems like we pushed you from the frying pan I to the fire.

Worriesnot, if you're wondering what will happen with a 120mm fork on the anthem...

http://enduro-mtb.com/en/back-issue-in-review-giant-anthem-advanced-sx-27-5/

Read this. Couple of small changes to the bike, most meaningfully being the fork, bar & stem.

okay I'm going to give 120mm a go.

can get a 120mm Reba RL in France at a good price

Dig the black stanchions on this fork - Anthem will now be very black - only thing previously not black was Fox stanchions  :P

this sort of pushed me over the edge:

Who’s the target market for this bike? People who absolutely hate having fun will probably not enjoy the Anthem Advanced SX. If your rides are mostly cross-country in nature but you love embracing your inner downhiller, then you’ll love this bike.

Yeah, it's one of the reasons that it was on the shortlist for "next bike" until the theft happened. Then I had to think hard and fast.

Still wondering if I should have gone with something with a bit less travel, but I know that that will disappear as soon as I lay my hands on my precious...

Nope. That's a Giant OEM fork, and if you could just pop it up to 120 then nobody would pay the extra for the SX...

ja but the places you have access to ride deserves all the travel you can get

the colour scheme on that reign is something else by the way. good choice

Got some info from RS dealer. Apparently I can convert a solo-air with a 120mm air spring module. +-R850 + fork service. Cheaper than buying a new fork.

So I got the Reba - posted a pic in the "boast" thread.

Stripped off the old one and as I was taking it off it hit me that that the standard FOX is not a normal sized tapered fork. Overdrive 2.... duh, so the Reba won't fit.

Just for ease of getting this done without too much research / phoning around / driving from bike shop to bike shop;

do I need to buy a complete new headset or can I just replace the top bearing and related parts.

And then: which do I get?

Appreciate anyone with experience having done this before.

But you'll need a new "cup" (thing that inserts into the frame) as well.

so a standard 1"1/8 upper bearing and then an insert/adaptor that goes into the frame to take the smaller OD on the 1"1/8 bearing. should be easy enough to get at LBS.

oh for vark steaks... going to need a new stem as well. didn't think this through properly did I? at least now I have a reason to get a short one.

You could always shim your stem? The Giant stems all come with shims these days so they work for standard or OD2.

Don't tell my wife!

I've always wanted to try a shorter stem so this is a good enough reason ;)
