Hi All,

l'm looking at putting the Renegade 2.3's on my rigid single speed and just want to know if anyone here has some experience with them or can compare them to the ground control 2.3's?

Thanks

And just to add some context I do mostly XC trail type stuff and originally was going for the ground control's, but just thought the extra volume in the renegades could be cool with the rigid, but I have heard others complaining about grip?

I've tried them a couple of months back, but found them too aggressive for XC riding... In my opinion if you're looking for XC Spez tyres, then Fasttrack back and Ground Control front or both Ground Control is the way to go.

The Renegades have high volume, but low grip. Really suited to hardpack conditions.

The Fast Trak is your best option, if you still want to run XC tyres back and front. Get them in the Grid casing and you'll have many happy miles.

2.3" Ground control front and back or 2.3" Purgatory front / back  if you want a slightly softer ride.

A 2.2" Saguaro on the rear with the 2.3" Purgatory on the front is also a nice fix

But there are other tyre options, and not knowing where you ride, your rims, your weight it is a little difficult.

Weight .... well I have found the std control casings to be a little flexy at lower pressure if you are a rider around the 90kg mark. A wider rim does help here.

If you are fully rigid SS I am sure you are looking for a tyre with good sidewall support at lower pressures to help with traction and comfort.

Hairy, for a big boned human like you, I recommend a non Spez tyre, preferably DH casing :-)

Been through a good couple of Spaz tyres and my only negative comment RE them would be that the sidewalls could do with a little more support, thus the GRID casing would for all intensive purposes be a better option for me personally ..... but finding any GRID casing tyres is rather near impossible.

Ran the Renegades on the old Shova before (Front and rear for a short spell, but mostly on the rear) and using a wide Bontranger rim. They roll like no ones business and thanks to a rather supple and grippy rubber compound they managed to find rather good traction, even in the wet and on gravelly Table Mountain Surfaces. The big thing here was the benefit of the wider Bonti Rhythm Rims giving them a nice profile.
