DJR Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I have 2 old Topeak Moonshine riding lights and would like to convert them to LED. I want better run times and brighter light (800 lumens will be good). Has anyone tried this? DIY hacks? Electronic engineers?
sampie Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 You will need a driver board, the LED with proper heatsink, the correct reflector for LED. Will be cheaper to buy one. I miss the DIY projects before the LED lights became so cheap.
Long Wheel Base Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I already went down that road. Ended up just buying a light from china. Worked out cheaper and more reliable in the end. PS: I also wasn't able to get anything as bright as you wanting to do, also part of the reason I gave up.

Grebel Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Judging by the pricing of lights in the classifieds lately, I wouldn't bother. My 900lm Magicshine battery is toast and it's probably cheaper to buy a complete light than a new battery...
droo Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 The bonus about doing it yourself is that you can pick your beam pattern. I've got a whole box of optics to play with - the Chinese ones are often very spotty so they look brighter in shop tests, but leave much to be desired out on the trail.
