A mate of mine once got into deep trouble when his wife caught him using her mixer mincer shredder to blend squirrel fur that he snipped off roadkill with a pair of scissors - the fur was intended for his flytying.......entirely reasonable thing to do, I thought, but boy, did she blow up! :D

I would also be upset, if it was a GSXR1000. Different story.

Bought the Alu anthem earlier this year. Slapped on a set of ZTR Arch's with some Hope hubs.

Bike weighed in at 11.2 kg's when I flew to Joburg sometime ago in the box... and this included the pedals, tyres, 3 empty bottles, my saddle bag with toolkit and a pedal spanner.

Not shabby and it is a beast of a bike.

Couldn't wait for the weekend...so I did a 15 km hood ride on the road...played a bit on the pavement...and went for hair raising ride through the park in the dark...did it with the revel a while back and almost went over the handle bars...on the anthem...everything was smooth even those places where the tree roots are lifting the tar.

Broke my PR on strava in one segment...clocked my max speed of 65 km/hr and bounced around like I was riding a marshmallow [emoji12]

Bike will need a few setup tweaks...suspension requires a lot more setting up and tweaking...found the o -ring right at the bottom when I got back...which means it must have bottomed out a some stage...I did spend most of the time riding in climb setting...but did change to trail when riding up the grass banks next to the road.

the anthem has a giant forward seat and I have been using an giant upright seat...gona spend a little more time in the saddle then make a decision to leave it or change.

Handle bars feel wide in comparison to the other bikes I ride....just need to get use to them.

Gear selection on is about as smooth as could be expected.

SLX Brakes are a hell of an improvement compared to what I am use to...front brakes feel like there is dirt on the pads...need to see what is going on because I haven't even been on the dirt yet

Tyres which come with the bike schwalbe racing Ralph...just converted to tubeless are really crap tyres...they feel really crap on the road ( didn't buy the bike for ridding on the road) so I will have to wait and see how they ride off road...when they need to be replaced...will definitely look at a better quality tyre.

Not having a lever to adjust the ctd mmmmmm....would be nice to flip a switch...but let's see how the off road ride goes...it is quite a mission to reach down to flip the switches.

I really enjoyed the ride and now at least have a better idea of what to expect when I go off road on the weekend...gona need to sort out the front brake and shock settings before the weekend.

Something I was a bit bummed about...when you are on a slight down hill felt like I needed a 3x crank and not only a 2...but once again let's see how the off road ride goes.

I leave the shock in trail mode where ever I'm riding. Climb mode for me is terrible, I prefer the predictable feel of trail mode even on tar. Descend mode just feels softer than trail and I'm usually out the seat when going down rocky/rough downhills.

You gonna love that Anthem, especially when you hit the trails, give it time.

Looking at the fox site....gona be a few upgrades in 2016...prices for the 2015 stuff already as much 40 %. Less

I would be prepared to bet good Money that the 2016 anthem will have remote lockout...the next question would be how much would it cost to fit a remote lever...R 8- 10 000

When you get older and invest good money in a beer boop...its gets a little more difficult getting down to tie your laces...so trying to reach a small lever between legs level with the pedals.....eeeeish...it was easier to stop on the side of the road get off move the switch....then get back on and head down the bumpy off road section...off again switch back to climb and continue on the tar road....pretty much like leaving stuff in the hydration back pac...after 30 km into a classic...the last thing you feel like doing is scratching for something...if it's not in the pocket of your shirt....it is still gona be in the back pac when you get to the finish line...so tell me how the old heavy weights like myself get down there to move that little lever on the shock...the fork is easy.

I am already loving it...can't wait to ride this weekend.

This thread is by no means a professional report on the anthem...i am merely sharing my experience as it happens...for amusement purposes only...don't try this home [emoji12] there are plenty of professional reviews on the anthem....this thread is age restricted for over 40 and heavy weight division (100 kg and over [emoji6])

If you are battling to switch the shock lever on road it will be worse off road.

The tyres I cant comment on, but have heard they are shite!!

As for 3x, I run 1x10, 32T up front and the speed has never been an issue offroad.

Glad you're enjoying the ride. I also boosted off of every crack and bump I could find in the beginning!!!

@ Isetech,

You'll get used to switch the suspension very quickly. Once the brain/hand co-ordination gets it figured out, it is no issue at all. Also, once you have the settings dialled optimally, you will switch a lot less often.

Persevere with the wide bars for a bit, if you can get used to it, your trail riding will be easier, with better control in the rough stuff.

Racing Ralph (the Evo, Snakeskin version) tyres are very good racing tyres and fast rolling. Their grip is not that great, but run at the right, lowish, pressure, they are OK. It is one of the top choices for things like Sani and Wines 2 Whales. They wear very fast on tar as they are soft. Try lowering the pressure, or replace with something with burlier knobs if you want more grip.

Don't stress about the 2x10. You won't miss the top end big gear on the dirt.

Enjoy
