Good question. I too have seen them and gave it a fleeting thought.

I would think aerodynamics and cooling are not so good compared to a cycling helmut but wouldn't really know any other aspects of the comparison.

The cooling and aero dynamics dont worry me too much though. The skateboarders and roller skaters do take some heavy hits though when they fall. So safety wise I presume it is just as safe. And it covers the back of the head fairly nicely too. They very comfy too, so its a tough one too call.

Skate helmets have better rear head protection and are designed to take several low impact hits. Bicycle helmets are better vented and are designed to take one big hit, then should be replaced. Please note, this is what I have read on various websites. If you crash your brains out I'm not to blame. :-)

Didn't want to start a new thread, so thought will ask my question here,

Currently I ride with an etto helmet, but the strap gave in. I have gone through and read the whole topic,, but just want to find out if anyone rides with a skate helmet ?

Something along the lines of this. I just dig the look. Wondering safety wise how it compares to a bicycle helmet. Will appreciate all advice.

Helmet is something you would want to put some money & invest on, and one can get a very decent helmet (such as the Giro Savant) without blowing all out on the budget.

At the end of the day, one only has one head and it's irreplaceable (unless you're the Finance minister)

100% agree. If I bought a skate helmet I would buy one which is top of the range. That link I just used so that people can see the style of helmet I am talking about. I would therefore love to find out the Pro's and Con's between a good skate helmet and a good bicycle helmet. If the skate helmet offers the same protection as a bicycle helmet Ii would 100% buy the skating helmet as i really love the look. I guess it's just personal preferance.

Yeah, i think it is personal preference as they both offer great safety which is what counts the most.

Skater helmut for lots of liw impact hits, hotter and not as aerodynamics. Cycling helmut for the odd occasion crash, cooler and better aerodynamics.

Try it out and let us know how it works out:-)

Different sports have different safety requirements .

Bicycle helmets are ventilated to help cool you down on longer rides.

I would imagine that your head will get very hot in a black skate helmet on a 2 hour ride in summer.

Bicycle helmets are made for high speed crashed and only one impact.

Skate helmets can take multiple lower impact crashes.

Hmm,

WRT the POC Trabec RACE MIPS - I have one. My experince hasnt been stellar.

So FWIW - not  a bad helmet, but also not what I expected when I paid the premium i did.

I had to have it replaced as the whole internal MIPS lining tore itself to bits. And it looked like the external shell was delaminating.

But the local agents replaced it no problem.

So local support is good and the service was great, but its at a premium over the other MIPS and as a result I wouldn't say it justifies the premium.

I will be going back to the Bell.
