capedutch Posted June 30, 2015 Share Good Day, the other day i ordered myself the new MTN-Qebeka cycling shirt through a link on their twitter page. It takes you to a site called All4Cycling and that is the only way to obtain their kit. I wanted a shirt like this to support the first African team in the history of the Tour d' France. Castelli is the brand and yes i did know that it is Italian, but what i did'nt know was that on top of what they were advertising the price to be in Rands is that you still had to pay duties and vat on this item $%$#$%%^%%^ customs wants us to buy local instead, and yes i could have gone to the grey market and purchased illegal items. But instead i went for the real mackoy and now i had to fork out an additional 60% on top of what i already paid for the Shirt. If i was told about this upfront i would have cancelled my order straight away. How was i suppose to know that they dispatch the garments from Italy every time you purchase an item. Hopefully this would be sound advise for future shoppers to be aware!
Guest notmyname Posted June 30, 2015 Share Write it off to school fee's. It's a well known fact to those who know it well. That ordering clothing from abroad brings huge customs charges. Sorry that you're in this spot of bother.

bertusras Posted June 30, 2015 Share Shipments outside the EUShipments of goods direct to customers residing outside the European Community (non-EU) are exclusive of VAT and customs duties. Local VAT and any customs duties will be borne by the recipient and will be required by the consignor at delivery of the goods.http://www.all4cycling.com/shop/conditions.php

Ram1 Posted June 30, 2015 Share Why not order with other friends to make up R3600 +-. ? That way you won't all the additional costs. They do show free shipping to Rsa for orders over 250€ if I'm not mistaken.

Dgas Posted June 30, 2015 Share On Thursday I ordered a bracket to hold the SRM display on a integrated bar. Paid 80 Euro for the bracket and another 20 Euro for shipping. Had it delivered to my work. It arrived today, I work in Midrand, my wife works at the same company. I was on business in Durban, so they call her from reception to get the package, before they gave it to her ,UPS ( the courier company) asked her to pay another R 256.00 for some duty. The fact that I ordered it it on Thursday and it arrived this morning is great. The fact that my wife now knows that I bought a bracket for R 1 400.00 plus another R 256 that she had pay in, not so great. She called me in the middle of a meeting wanting to know if she should pay in more money that I had already paid for it. Got home a hour ago, but so far not a word about it. I am sure it will come up sometime. Can only be thankful she does not read the hub.

The cost is 219 Euro plus shipping. How does one find out what duties are applicable?
scuzzy Posted July 1, 2015 Share On bicycle parts you will still have to pay VAT but no real duty, on clothing and electronics it is a different story. That is how I understand it.
usxorf Posted July 1, 2015 Share Duties on cycling parts is 15.4%, a bit higher than just vat. Google or hub search, there's a thread with plenty of detail. I'll link later if no one else does first.
