My last 3 bikes where FS 140 mm with trail geometry. Before them i had a few DS 100 mm xc machines.

Now in my bid to get my pyga i sold my bike and aim to save up a bit, and in the mean time im on a 26er HT, its very nicely spec but has 100 mm travel and its very "upright" compared to my old trance.

Must say, dont mind the 26 wheels so bad but the HT..... Man rides are bumpy!

Any advice?

Your best bet is large volume tubeless tyres on the bike. I have a hardtail Ragley, albeit with 140mm front travel and 67degree head angle. Run it with 2.3 Bronson's front and rear.

If you do get the hang of a hardtail it actually improves your riding. Keeping legs extra supple, learning how to keep the rear light when needed. The instant trail feedback and response.,,

mmm ja 2.3 sounds like a plan, unfortunately cant adjust the head angle, and doubt I can up the travel upfront ?

ps robodog its your shops fault im here !! had I not gone and looked at those pygas so much id still be happily riding my trance :)

My Single speed is 26" HT. Run big volume tires, with extra low pressure at the back. Gives a little bit of comfort. But your best weapon is supple knees and elbows. And good line choice.

I know the feeling. I rode The Monster a few years ago on my Cotic Soda. Had a great race but got so beaten up that when I climbed off at the finish every leg muscle I had cramped simultaneously resulting in me collapsing into a screaming writhing mass in the finish chute. Hilarious for my mates, not so much for me!

Will always own a hardtail though, and if I had to choose one bike only it would be my hardtail. Thankfully I don't have to choose though.

I feel your pain! I had to recently sell my Trance X and am back on my trusty GT...The Donkey! This bugger weighs almost 15kg but has never let me down. Over the last 2 months I have gradually got used to it again and am quite liking the ride and not having to service Fox suspension every other week! I make use of my legs a lot more now and have to ride better lines but its all good times!

Why did you sell

Needed money basically! Recently split from my partner of 14yrs so I had some bills to get sorted. Pretty sad day really, in fact the new buyer asked if I was going to cry! Currently trying to sell my house and head back to the UK. I keep telling myself I will get something else that side when I settle in. S..t happens!

 We will close down immediately!

I wouldn't play around with longer travel forks on frames which weren't designed for them. You could possibly go up to 120mm and run it a bit softer than your current fork. Some forks like some of the Rebas, it's just a spacer which can be removed.

This. It's a good reason to have a SS, or at least a hardtail, in your collection.

I really do L  O  V  E  my 26'er HT, sometimes I wonder if I ever really actually need my duallie anymore. In fact, this HT is one of the reasons I have been through so many duallies .... they (duallies) simply just do not match up to the ride experience of the On-One Summer Season frame with a nice little 140mm fork up front.
