Reverb Stealth dropper

My 1st Reverb Stealth developed a problem after a few months and was replaced under warranty.

The 2nd one has been working perfectly for about a year now but recently I am having an issue where the "top cap assembly" that houses the dust wiper seal tends to come loose and unscrew itself while riding.

I have tightened it a few times but don't have the 34mm Crows foot socket that the RS service manual recommends so I can't use my torque wrench to tighten it. I do have a feel for the required 29 Nm so I have tightened it manually but it comes loose after a few rides

Any tips? ....other than "take it to the lbs"

On tapatalk so can't see what area you are in. If in the CPT area, I made a crows foot socket for when I serviced mine, which you are welcome to use.

Nope, he is in KZN.

Don't have a Reverb, but first thing that comes to mind when something keeps unscrewing is loctite?

Ja considering Loctite but it was not assembled with that stuff and the factory manual also does not indicate that it should be used.

Loctite and hydraulics....eish....after the first time you open it there are little crumbs of Loctite everywhere and difficult to clean. I had a fork damper once that wouldn't damp....opened it to find loctite crumbs had jammed the shim stack open.

Ja sorry, like I said I don't have a Reverb so don't know what the part looks like or where it is on the dropper.  Loctite is sometimes applied a bit over zealously though.

It is the cap on top of the outer tube that is clamped in the frame. The sliding upper tube with saddle attached slides through it.

Might still do a dab of loctite there. The air and oil all seems to be inside the inner post and thus separately sealed.

That cap shouldn't come loose if you've torqued it down properly - 30Nm is pretty tight.

In a pinch a large shifter will do the job - just leave it clamped in the frame.

Thanks Droo

That's what I did twice before already. Big shifter. Reluctant to add more torque as the shifter is already starting to burr the edges of the flats on that soft alloy cap....even with care taken to assure a close fit.

Wondering if maybe I missed something obvious. The dropper is still working normally. Will give it one more try with a bit more horns this time. If it comes loose again I will add a small drop of blue loctite
