Mangaung Cycle Classic 2015

Route is quite technical, not too many long straight stretches, I really hope the traffic police will be on top of their game for this. Short sharp climbs and lots of corners. There should be around 500 people, but if they are lucky, it could be a bit more. Your goal time is not unrealistic, nut would depend on the type of riders you find yourself with. Being from PE you wont have a lot of trouble with the wind, but it will be blowing.

Hi Hubbers!

Doing my first Mangaung Cycle challenge this weekend!

Not from Bloem so I have no idea what to expect from the route....Any advice / inside info will be much appreciated!!

Also how big is the field normally? Is a 2h45 a realistic target? I normally challenge a sub 3 on races with much more climbing.

Thanks!!

Like any route, its about who you ride with. Last year's field was comparatively small due to admin issues and PPA only stepped in at the 11th hour to save it. This year I think the numbers should be back up to 2013 levels and if you are in the first few batches I would say 2h45 is realistic.

Agreed on the route - a few short but relatively steep climbs a bit after half-way; I think the first 70 or so is pretty flat.

Getting a 2h45 should be entirely realistic, depending on your group - I managed 2h46 in 2012 thanks to a fast group.

For those who have been speculating on participation numbers:

778 people have entered Sunday's road race (hoping to receive a breakdown between 106km route and 30km route)

256 people have entered Saturday's MTB ride.

EDIT: Confirmed -

106km = 637

30km = 141

Pretty decent. that 02h45 should be possible CTJ

if only Bloem wasn't 600km away for us Durbanites... Would have liked to give this a try, always enjoy trying out new routes

It's not stopping this Durbanite :D

Late registration until Saturday <wink wink>

Logistically challenging for anybody outside of Bloem I'd think. :whistling:

And unfortunately the event doesn't have the mass participation attraction of Argus or 94.7

But I'm sure all participating will enjoy it.! :thumbup:
