Biogen Allergic reaction - any ideas?

I have been cycling and running for years and on occasion used Biogen, never had any issues with it.

Recently I bought their Amino power plus, as they were slightly cheaper than what I normally use.

But hell, as soon as I drank it I get the weirdest needles and pins sensation in my face that then migrates to my chest and arms. Lasts about an hour and then disappears.

Anyone else experience something like this before ?

I reckon it must be an allergic reaction to something unique in the formula, maybe a colorant

I dropped them a mail as well to hear what they say.

If it includes vit B3 (Niacin) then it's normal.

"Yet another feature of niacin is that it dilates blood vessels and creates a sensation of warmth, called a "niacin flush."  This is often accompanied with a blushing of the skin. It is this "flush" or sensation of heat that indicates a temporary saturation of niacin, and that is our topic here."

I get exactly the same thing from using USN's pro enduro recovery drink

Feels like prickly hot flushes in my face and arms, goes away after 30 mins or so, but feels pretty crappy.

I Also put it down to some sort of reaction to one of the ingredients.

Will be interesting to hear what Biogen come back with, maybe the USN drink contains the same stuff.

I do work in the pharmaceutical industry and they are regulated to hell and back. Audited by so many international boards, etc.

Supplement industry, zip, nada, nothing!!!

Read in a body building article a few years ago that when tested some of the products tested didn't some of the reported ingredients.

Not knocking any of these products or brands mentioned but I am very wary when taking supplements, you are what you put in after all. Most times you are getting a ton of thing that you don't want just to get the few things you do.

Turns out to make really funky coloured, expensive, urine.

Apparently, yes. IF it contains Niacin, then it is. It goes away the more you get used to it.

So does coughing while smoking

Comparing a Vitamin with smoking?

Edit: Just to be clear. I don't know what these supplements mentioned actually contain. Just said IF it contains niacin, it might be that.

Coughing thing was just a joke there

I have not received feedback from Biogen yet, but I assume it will be the niacin.

But to be honest it feels crap, and I will probably not buy the product again

If I am not mistaken, the Pro Enduro contains  Beta-Alanine

On an empty stomach, beta-alanine will give you that "prickly" feeling.

It's perfectly "normal", according to the label.

From the label:

"Note: Beta Alanine may cause a harmless prickling / tingling / flushing sensation in some users. This sensation generally decreases with continued usage. If this sensation becomes bothersome, taking Beta-Alanine with a meal may help blunt this effect."
