Didn't somebody here have a pet-food distribution website? I remember seeing an online ordering and delivery system?

From what I recall it was just high-end pet food, but what about making available some cheaper 50kg bags or something for delivery to FORA or SPCA? The website could have a section for food donations, where the user pays for the food + delivery to FORA or an SPCA brach of their choice?

I would use it!

Amateur, do you have better pricing through your normal supplier than we can buy for?

(will the money spent on a food go further if you buy it?)

In December with the money donated by Hubbers I bought a middle of the range food from a distributor in Fontainebleau, Randburg. It comes in 25kg bags and when I told them what it was for they gave me quite a big discount.

I can't remember the exact amounts but I am going there again tomorrow and will post details afterwards.

Hi All

thanks for everybodie's help so far, Wolverine also just dropped off 4 bags at me, thanks soooooooooooo much!!!!!

No I don't have any special supplier for food, unfortunately, I also go to the place in fontainebleu, because they give us a nice discount! Or the last time they were closed allready so Zaskar and I went to makro.

It doesn't have to be branded food, pick 'n pay brand is cheaper, so you can buy more for the same money. I'd rather feed 20 doggies/cats with low brand or middle brand food than 5 with high brand food. It's just so they can eat. You can even donate like a big bag of mielie pap or rice, the volunteers will take it home and cook it for the animals and bring it in on a Saturday or Sunday and the animals go crazy for it.

The one day we were there this one lady had a big bucket full of chicken feet, that she had bought and cooked and was giving it to the dogs as treats, they went bananas!! I had never thought of something like that, but they loved it!!!

So really anything tin food, pellets you name it!!!!.

Thanks again everyone for the help, and thanks IanJ again for taking this on as well and making the trips and helping with the deliveries

Ok I delivered 150kg from Delgado, MWNN and myself this morning and FORA was VERY grateful to receive it.

The guy there told me they are currently housing 590 dogs and more arrive every day.

I bought the food in 50kg bags from Fontainebleau Pet Hyper just off Rabie Street. The normal price is R350/50kg but they gave me 10% discount as it is for charity. Works out to R 6.30/kg for a good quality food.

Hi All

Went and bought another lot of food yesterday, 50kg's dog food and 40kg's cat food.

Thanks to BigBen, CarbonBoy and Zaskar for their donations!!!! And thanks to Lowracer for the goods he has put up for auction to raise money!!

You guys rock!!!

Shame when I dropped off the food yesterday, and the guys came to the car to fetch it, the lady that runs the place said to the one guys that works there .... and I quote :' See Daniel when you think things are hopeless and we don't know what we are going to do, things happen and they work out, they always work out, we just have to keep beleiving". Nice hey, shame they were really in need.

I got some info on good prices for blankets aswell, they are running into winter and what they need bad now aside from food is blankets, so I was thinking. Aside from setting up the road ride were we can all ride to the shelter and do a hand over of food, which she is helping me with in order to get hold of the proper authorities to organise this.

Was thinking of doing the mtb on Sunday the 20th??? Everyone that rides must donate R20, the blanket will cost R29 each but it'll add up and I can go buy them, they are proper army blankets and not the doggy ones that you can only wash ones and they pull appart, these are decent and they are double blankets so they can cut them smaller.

So who is in????

We'll do it at Northern Farm!!
