Training Advice for novice

If its the Heart Rate app on an iPhone specifically, that is pretty accurate.

I would definitely see a cardiologist in this case.

Gotta agree with seeing a doc (although it appears as if you've taken that advice on board, good on you!) I am a smoker...cough, ptoo, yuck, blegh.......but my RHR is 58 bpm. 44 yrs old, 83kgs. Those stats are merely to indicate that your RHR is pretty high Bud.

Maybe sleep with your HRM on and analyse the results the following day, and take them with to your doc.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice

Hi silk man,

Send me a pm and I will help you out. Will be able to put together a program for you which fits in with your needs and your current physical form regardless of how "unfit" you may seem. We all started there some people just seems to have forgotten this.

Some people seem to have forgotten this implies some people on this thread giving advice have been less than helpful or condescending. I really didn't pick that up at all from any of the posts.

YoYo-Smileyguy if there is an underlying medical problem it would be bad advice to get someone to do any strenuous exercise.

Have it checked out FIRST

So - sorry to say - bad advice from you.

Go see a Doctor, my RHR is 43. I'm 40 next month. I'm 1.68 and weight fluctuate between 68 - 71kg.

If Doctor gives you a clean bill of health, then just go ride your bike, get some mileage and some hours in and then talk stats.

Before Garmin's, cell phone apps etc, most of us just rode our bike and didn't have any stats to worry about.

Most important, enjoy it
