hey i was just wondering why they have such a high age limit for the epic... 18 years! i know it's hard and everything, but i'm sure most 17 year olds could manage it...

my friend who's 16 went down to support his dad did two stage of it consecutively and although he said it was extremely tough, but managable....

i want to do a father son team with my dad but there's a @$# age limit...

what are your thoughts?

2 stages is not 9 stages.

Burry, while being absolutely awesome, was unable to finish.

I think they should raise the minimum age to protect young riders from completely doing themselves in.

While the is Epic is indeed EPIC, I think it can do lasting damage to younger riders.

That's because they are busy at school studying their spelling and grammer.

There is an age limit for a reason, its the same reason why young riders are subject to gear restrictions and limited by distances, you might well feel strong enough to do it and you probably would get through it but for your body to recover day to day over the 8 days it would be taking too much out. the stages are too long and hard for most of the field, rather wait til your 19 to try and do it. you will enjoy it more, your body will have matured enough to handle the endurance and you will enjoy it a whole lot more.

I agree with Shamus. I reckon they should increase the minimum age for the Epic and Ironman triathlons too. Young bodies (and minds) need time to develop and become conditioned to the rigours of major endurance events.

To me, anyone under the age of 24 should go mad doing shorter distance races while they gain strength, experience and skill. You can do endurance events for the rest of your life, why do you want to rush into them?
