Saddle Type and Curvature

Recommended Posts

I've recently dropped my handle bars by 10mm or so. Much more aggressive and I like the frontal area drag reduction and aero gains but it came at the expense of soreness in the crotch.

I have long legs and a short'ish upper body so my saddle is quite high. I now find that my crotch gets very eina. This is much worse on the white saddle then it is on the black.

I think the curve/rise in the front of the white saddle adds pressure at the bottom. This pressure is very much reduced with the downward slope of the black one but I still have a little bit of discomfort.

Anyone have some advice on this.

I think you aero position does not have that much gain since its only 10mm.

Considering your discomfort, I will move it back since its not accommodating with your anatomy,

If not try moving the saddle forward a bit and see if this makes a difference.

Difference is quite noticeable actually. That's in terms of watts and I have another 15mm to go down. I was sitting very upright before.

Will try moving it forward I think. Bike 2 saddle is maxed forward to get me over the BB.

Thanks

Why not try something like the Spez Power saddle, it has a shorter nose to help with reducing pressure when you are in the drops.

I like this for the slot down the centre. Might eleviate pressure on the bone down middle.

Alas no demo available until probably end September. But will keep it in mind. Thanks.

Anyone use an IM triathlon saddle?

Jip, that slot will also help.

No problem, hope you find one sooner though. I'm also going to be looking at a demo next year, my Fizik is making me go numb in my left leg. Not the best.

Tip the nose down more. You then need to find a good compromise between too much pressure on your hands and a sore crotch. Before spending money on different saddles I would try and get a good position on the existing one. Also I think the black one would be the easiest set up. I think the curvature of the white one could make it more difficult to find a comfortable position with the rise in the nose.

Numbness in middle leg is saddle num left leg might be something else.

Thanks Matchstix, will check what the interwebs have to say.

That looks like Aliante vs Arione.

Aliante is designed for a more upright position.

It also has more padding, which I find pushes up and in toward the perinium.

From the description of your riding position it's quite aggressive, and the Arione, slightly nose down 'should' be more suitable. In theory.

I've posted elsewhere recently in this forum about my recent testing of several saddle types.

Good luck.

Spot on that. I took the Aliante off and rode the Arione on my training bike past weekend. Already felt much better with this change. Also adjusted the position slightly since and will test that tonight. You can see it's slightly angled downwards.

Had the same issue, and after tilting the nose of the saddle down slightly (barely noticeable), it has made a huge difference and I am much more comfortable on the bike. Did this on both my road and mountain bikes.

But I hope the new saddle works for you

Think I might have found the answer. Test saddle on its way. So happy :-) ☺

That looks neat... Where you getting the test from?
