The distance shown for this event is 114km. I rode this event a few years ago, the distance that I got on my Garmin was closer 124km. Has anybody done this event recently? What is the actual distance and what is the total ascent?

Not mixing it up with the EPR Cycle challenge?  Almost the same route with a bit extra towards Randfontein.

I am pretty new to cycling and have thus far done 40km in Powerade Womans Day event, 70km in the Lost CIty Challenge and a practice run of 95km a week ago.

I registered for this event and I plan to finish it come what may.

Any advise for a newbie on what to expect from this event. I see the profile shows its quite hilly.

Some would say it is quite flat...

Some pointers: Don't over train in the days leading up to the event (i.e.this week); sort out nutrition; get there early; find your pace in the race; stop at the refueling stations and most of all, enjoy the race!

Thx FS.

I am onboard with your advise.

I have nutrition sorted - day before and during the race. I did the 95km at an average of 22-24kms p/h and I think I still had a couple of kms in the tank if required. I reckon I should be okay.

With 790m of climbing it is quite flat, there is only one long climb. When I rode this two years ago there was a bit of wind but looking at the forecast the wind should be ok.

Apart from nutrition don't forget a spare tube and a bomb, if you get stuck it is a long walk back to civilization.

It is dawning upon me that my definition of a climb is very much different from that of many people..haha.

I have spare tube, bombs, levers, utility tool....and 3 views of a "Fixing a flat tyre fast" video on Youtube  ;)

I find myself dealing with the long steady climbs much better than the shorty steep ones. So I am very positive about this event.

Flat and fast, enjoy the ride!

Will probably also get dropped as the training is not there.

Good luck to all.

Edit: Oh yes there will be wind (but please no rain as it is gonna be cold)

If you get caught up in the early excitement you will have LOTS of time to regret it while you battle the wind on long stretches of road all by your self. Let the quick guys go at the start and try to finish strong. The gradient of a climb is very different when done at pace. Tie down your bottles -seriously.

I wonder how this route would race in reverse. Flat start, nice downhill then suddenly a killer climb and nice rolling terrain to the finish.
