Khronis Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Unfortunately cyclists are well known for chest thumping and FIGJAM type of stuff. Runners tend to be a lot more down to earth, and do their sport for the sheer fun and enjoyment of it. The Comrades 2016 part puts of the Strava club puts me off a bit. Do not have any aspirations or inclinations to ever do a marathon or an ultra. Happy to run as hard as I can for fun up to half marathons As in cycling you also get runners that aren't that down to earth. I was helping out at the water table in Bradford Road at the Dischem race on sunday and there was a woman walking and one of the guys jokingly chirped that its a running race , wow did she get upset. But then my girlfriend got a chirp from one of the runners that had us laughing. She was cheering on the the runners and was yelling "keep it up" when some guy says " If i can't get it up how am i supposed to keep it up" . She didn't know what to say and after that just yelled well done to the passing runners. ScottCM, Lexx, Andrew Steer and 1 other 4

Hacc Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 You know him Hahaha, I was running next to him once and he said to me that is his favorite response to supporters shouting "Keep it up". I almost fell down laughing while running. Lexx 1

Other than that the spirit amongst the runners was awesome. One guy stopped , took off his hat and asked if he could take some of the ice cold water in the plastic bins to cool off his solar panel , pointing at his bald head. Stretch 1

Happy to run as hard as I can for fun up to half marathons Been running for the past year now and am inclined to agree with you with runners in general being a tad bit friendlier than cyclists. Wrt the running I am pretty much happy to run 4 to 5k's, although I have the base to do a 10k run. And yes that group name is super intimidating! Sent from my SM-J200H using Tapatalk 'Kaze Pete 1
SeaBee Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 so does this now mean that your Strava group will be for us fun runners as well Stretchy??? lol@ Tubes...i might have to hold you to that...see you in April with a bit of luck.Join up, Candz. I am in no way intending to run Comrades, but am part of the tread and Strava group. Lots of tips from these wise peeps with all this experience between them. Stretch, candz1 and Hacc 3
Stretch Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) ok the strava group....was created so that those of us doing the comrades last year could monitor how we were doing training wise with other like-minded soles I dont really look at the group that often..sometimes when i am in full swing with the training i do use it to see how my week compared with others in the group..which is quite useful It does not have to be a comrades specific group - so you are all welcome to join and not feel intimated..just remember that you will see people putting in anything from 40 to 200 (ferret!) a week Edited January 17, 2017 by Stretch Mntboy and candz1 2

My runs are a bit infrequent at the moment due to work. Can only run when the ship is in harbour, really. My name, so you can recognize me, is Corniel Seddon. Sent from my SM-J200H using Tapatalk

Mntboy Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 ships have decks...... Yes they do but sometimes those decks aren't weather friendly. I do try and run on the aft deck of the Anchor Handling Tug Supply ship i'm on but due to her low freeboard it can be rather wet at times and very slippery. I've only had about two occasions where I felt it was safe enough to run. The last occasion was a 28 minute 5k run. Sent from my SM-J200H using Tapatalk Lexx and Stretch 2
