Time for a new MTB

Hi there,

I currenlty have a 2008 Raleigh 26" HardTail MTB which has served me well. I'm really looking forward to move to a 29er.

I would appreciate it if you anyone could advise me whether is worth going for a low-end dual suspension R18k or rather spend R12k on a Hardtail.

As for drive trains, anyone know of bikes that come with a 2x?? configuration? I found with my Raleigh that I hardly used the top gearing.

Thanks.

Firstly, may I ask... why 29er specifically?

2nd - I'd much rather spend 18k on one of the 2nd hand full sussers on here, like a giant trance or such, which is far more capable, confidence inspiring and plain old better quality than the hardtail that you could pick up for 12k.

If you look properly, you can get a really, really good full sus for that money.

Hi, thanks.

Most of my friends have 29er's and I struggle to keep up with them on longer stretches. My confidence on more rocky courses has also taken a knock with a number of falls. The guys on the 29er's seems to get through a lot easier than I could.

I will only use a 29er for xc riding. I will always use my 26 for trails. Thats what i prefer. Maybe you should borrow theres first to understand the hype. i love my 26ers but hey all of them have pros and cons 26,29,650b

You may also consider that your friends are just fitter than you   :D

Use it, don't use it.....
