Are my old bikes & simulator worth anything?

Hi everyone

I'm new around these parts and I'm looking at getting myself a new bike (I haven't ridden in years). While I'm going through the process of getting a new bike I thought I may as well finally get around to selling/giving away mine & my parents old bikes.

Don't worry, I'm not under any illusion that they're going to be worth much (if anything) so you won't be disappointing me if you tell me as much.

The 3 bikes are as follows:

- these are not pictures of the actual bikes as they are in storage, however I will gladly upload pics of the bikes/parts if you guys think it's worthwhile :)

GT Avalanche AL (+- 1993 model)

The bike in the above picture was being sold for £ 200 and made me think perhaps at least 1 of the bikes could potentially be worth something - LINK

Miyata Elevation 5 000 (I think 1993 model) - LINK

GT All Terra Triple Triangle (+- 1999)

This was my first decent bike and I'm guessing I got it somewhere around 1999. My GT has front shocks unlike the one in the pic.

Cateye CS1000

It will require a service and the display unit doesn't seem to turn on when you pedal.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I realise that without info on the components this whole post may be futile, however pretty much everything is standard on the bikes and they are as they were bought. If anyone wants more info about anything I'm happy to try get it.

The GT Avalanche was recently serviced but the others haven't been for a while. Assuming that they're not worth very much I'll just pass them on to individuals that will get good use out of them.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read my post :)

Hey BDF, thank you! I'm not that old, I just happen to have fantastic taste in music :P

I thought of going this route but I had a couple concerns:

1. I would have no idea what prices to ask for and what a fair price would be.

2. I don't want to spam the classifieds with anything that isn't worth selling.

I'm hoping to get a general idea of the best way forward from the collective experience of the members here rather than going in blind.

The bikes really aren't worth anything - I would say R500 max - and then it would be someone that will use it on their indoor trainer.

Rather donate them - or keep them to show to your grandchildren one day....

What sizes are they? I'm quite keen on the red GT. Will go nicely in the bike room next to my Gary fisher wahoo of the same-ish period.

Also look at Build-a-Bike SA

This.

Nick builds and distributes bikes to commuters who's lives are changed by becoming mobile.

It is a really worthwhile cause.
