I reckon if he does XCO & Marathon he'd be better served by something like the Anthem SX or a Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt.

I was thinking Trance X 29er... I should have clarified.

edit: but the Anthem SX is also a great choice. I don't know the Rocky Mountain other than that I like Maple Syrup.

Haha, I don't dare touch anything on my wife's bike.

If it needs servicing I send it to a "professional". If I stripped it, she would throttle me.

It started slow. One of my fork axle bolts was totally stripped of its thread. It wasn't my fault that her stem bolts were the exact size I needed. She wants me to be safe. She'll understand I told myself. But it didn't stop there...

Its a cannondale scalpel. If it is not the front fork that needs a service then the back shock failes on me. Awesome bike, but I realized I need something more rugged as well.

Now this sounds like a great excuse to have a proper look at the Trigger.

or a jekyll. If he gets the same colour. She might not even notice

hehe, you right I think she will not notice the difference.  In her opinion the cannondale is 1/2 bike, because it of the awkward fork :)

Yes I do XCO and Marathon, but also like playing over the weekends with bigger drops etc.

The Scalpel is a fun bike, but it does not like the bigger hits.  I guess I need to get 'n purpose specific bike..  One for racing and one for playing  OR

maybe that new cannondale HABIT.  120mm travel front and real.  Looks like it can take more abuse, and looks light enough to race.

The questions nobody's asked so far:

1. How many hours of riding do you do in 3 months?

2. How do you clean your bike, and how often?

3. Do you keep your stanchions and damper body clean?

  • 2 weeks later...

1)  I do the majority of my miles on my old hardtail around local streets, and bushes.  On the cannondale self I do +- 2 hours a week on it. (over a period of 3 months)

2)  I wash my bike after every ride, with mist spray water, never high pressure.  And if I had a muddy ride I would quickly service the BB, or hubs myself.

3)  Because I clean my bike after every ride, the rear shock is mostly cleaned after every ride.  The fork has a boot so I don't warry about the fork.

Cannondale trigger...does everything.

Yeah you right, should look into that.

Consider a Trek Remedy as well.... Is that okay option?

30 hours between services on a well maintained bike means something's not right.

100 hours is standard, and RS shocks can go twice that without issues. The older Leftys are usually pretty bombproof as well, but there was one superlight carbon variant (can't recall which one) that did give uphill.
