Road conversion

Thanks, ill have a look, wanting to convert my road bike in a bit more comfortable long distance tourer

(not my bike in the pic, ive got a Raleigh RC6000)

So all the info i gathered thus far tells me if you have a 10spd setup, you would need to buy a new shifter for the rear derailer... sux a bit, but rest seems easy anough,,,

 

(if you have a 9spd setup you might be able to get away with a normal MTB shifter)

My brother did his using SLX MTB components, see if you can find a 10 speed Cassette, Dérailleur and Shifter on the hub, else check online for brand new stuff. Even the 10 speed Deore components seem to be very reliable and quality stuff nowadays.

I did a setup like that for my wife. Running shimano 2x10 mtb shifters, shimano flat handlebar brakes lever (r550 i think) deor mtb rear derailleur. Rest all road parts. 10 speed. Worked perfect for me.

 

My father has similar setup but has the tiagra shifters in which case you would use road derailleur - probably a better option.
