DominicStratford Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Afternoon All, I've been told I have to take some leave before the end of the year and so I'm looking to get out of Jozi for a week around the 1st week of October. I want to take my bike a disappear somewhere for a holiday of riding, braaing, chilling and either camping or not ridiculously expensive self-catering. I don't really want to drive every day to a trail either. Have you got any suggestions for places to look and try?
MarcBurger Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Waterval Bowen has some sweet riding. Not sure about a whole week there though. Can maybe migrate from there elsewhere. Else hit up a "to-do" trails list between Pietermaritzburg and Kloof.
Bianchi Baby Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I agree with the Mankele suggestion. 3 hours from JHB, 1/2 hr from Nelspruit for when you need retail therapy and supplies Endless trails, awesome camping facility with swimming pools etc Just what your boss has ordered for you ????????

Flashfozzy Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Rode the green route at Mankele yesterday! Brilliant. Wildlife, veiws, rocks, holes, trees and crashes!Permanent tents R230 per adult per night.Chalets a little more.

We thinking of doing our annual lads "bike tour" there...tour de sweaty betty. Like golf but with mtb. Fines, awesome trails, braai every meal, fire, kakpraat don't think it gets better

Day one: Karkloof OutbackDay two: Howick trails linking onto Karkloof supa 20 to falls back along valley into Howick trails again.(Lekker views and you will get to ride puffadder pass)Day Three: Howick trails Downlines: For the DH and Enduro fansDay Four:Cedara/Grace trailsDay Five:St IvesDay Six: Cascades PmbDay Seven: If you keen to drive a little further : Giba

DIPSLICK Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 just check your dates if going to mankele in october its then 3 TOWERS TIME AND KEEP IN MIND IT f#$%%^ HOT IN THAT VALLEY OCTOBER but as said above, you wont see half the trails
DominicStratford Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Thanks for the advice all. I'll definitely check out Mankele. Are the routes well enough signed for the first time solo rider? I don't generally bother with GPS and Strava so I'll be navigating with just a trail map and curiosity.

We saw a dwarf playing thunderstruck in a local watering hole(true story). Partied hard a random place(potbellypig or something) the night before the race.
