Groenkloof Nature Reserve Robbed

All though I prefer to write good news stories it is only right that I make you aware of the latest fiasco at Groenkloof nature reserve.

 

Last week one of the houses, the hostel were robbed, the thieves also made off with all of the rental bicycles although three were recovered in the veld. It is important to note that security ( as well as the general management of the park) has gone backwards since David Boshoff was put on suspension. The place is effectively being run by the unions so expect it to get worse in terms of security. So ride in groups if you can and if not, avoid riding in the North Eastern portion of the reserve when on your own.

 

Having said all of that I'm riding there tomorrow at 7:30, we're riding hot and heavy, so beware if you have ill intent!

Chatted to the security guards at the gate today. He was tight lipped about the actual incident but he did say all the bikes were recovered some at the station the rest from the squatter camp below Unisa.

I had a incident there a few weeks ago, and when I approached the security all I got was.......eish.......all they do is collect the cash at the gate and NOTHING else. suppose they think the crooks come in the front gate rob peeps and then leave via the main gate.....stooooopid.

Thats why this country is the way it is, people too scared to call a spade a spade.

 

Everyone wants to be all PC and adopt a black baby, donate endlessly to charities to support them while I have to find other spots safer to ride because the ones we support with our tax money steal from us, or kill us for what little we have worked for.

Has anybody been to Groenkloof lately?Would like to go for a ride there.Are the trails being maintained?

Trails were okay before the rain, I think the rain over the last two days is going to be a test for the new management team. I'm riding there over the weekend and I'll report back.

As a possible indicator I rode Klapperkop this morning and I must say the trails held up remarkably so perhaps Groenkloof will be fine.

Groenkloof can be an amazing spot if it was run properly - I stopped cycling there months ago when the nonsense started and wont be cycling there soon 

 

Imagine a safe and secure Groenkloof with a cycle bridge across the R21 to klapperkop  and the fountains also secure - man one will be able to do such amazing training all right on your doorstep - dream on
