Bicyclegear.co.za were fortunate enough to ride the new Boschedal MTB trails on Heritage Day yesterday.

A lot of work has gone into the trail which starts from Boschendal Estate. The parking is secure, there are showers and you can grab a coffee, cold drink and something to eat both before and after your ride.

There is a ton of trail cut into the mountain and through their forests. The downhill runs will suit the enduro crowd perfectly, with berms, camelbacks and table-tops all in the mix. It was wonderful riding on virgin trail without any sign of rutting yet. Everyone who rode was basically making their own lines. The switchbacks are tight and exhilarating, I would certainly recommend seat-post droppers here.

The route is well marked. On the 30km route, we gained 700metres in climbing which gets you right up to the mountain cliffs, with amazing view over the valley below.

The trail is set to open in two weeks.

I see black and red markings on the photo, is there also a green/blue (in other words, easier family oriented) route?

Martin,

The trail will be open in two weeks. There is a blue route which is a shorter route and includes more farm road. The red and black routes both have technical sections, the black includes a bigger climb and more sections.

Seeing your profile pic, the black will suit the #enduro riders more. You do however have to climb a bit...

We're staying at Boschendal in November for our wedding anniversary. Flying down for the weekend and not packing the bike.

Are there any bike rentals available in the area?

I don't know whether they offer that service on the estate. Over in "Stellies" I am sure you will be able to organise a rental.

I contacted the farm this week, spoke to more than one person, and nobody seemed to know anything about the trails opening for the public. I was told it was only for the event and for their overnight guests. I really hope the people I spoke to were just misinformed. Keeping fingers crossed.

It would be a shame if they don't open the trails to day visitors. I live in Stellies, so really there's no point in me staying there overnight. Lets hope the staff were just misinformed.

Well the blurb from the OP on this thread creates the distinct impression that it's opening as a trail centre.

Bicyclegear, some input???

I rode the trail as part of an event hosted by Boschendal called the "Ride&Roast". From what I could see the farm has got amazing facilities to handle mtb'ers i.e. a deli for coffee, shade for post ride chilling and a bite to eat...

I don't know when they will open the trail. What I do know is that there has been some major work done to create the trail. I would think with all the effort made, it would be a waste not to open it to the public at some stage.
